Candidates for House Districts 33A and 33B get DFL nod

Candidates Norrie Thomas and Kelly Morrison, running for House Districts 33A and 33B respectively, were endorsed at the DFL convention on March 17.

The DFL endorsed Thomas for District 33A in the House of Representatives. 33A encompasses Corcoran, Greenfield, Independence, Long Lake, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetrista, part of Orono, St. Bonifacious and Wayzata. The current representative for 33A is Rep. Jerry Hertaus, who is in his third term in office. Thomas and Hertaus each ran for the 33A seat in 2016.

“As an entrepreneur and leader I know what it takes to get things done,” Thomas said. “I work hard and smart, and motivate people to work together.”

Thomas is a graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. According to the press release, Thomas has had a 30-year career focused on healthcare, pharmacy and involvement in Minnesota-based businesses.

Thomas said she is proud of the Minnesota educational system. She is a Wayzata resident and has four daughters, two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Kelly Morrison

In District 33B, the DFL endorsed Morrison. 33B includes Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Minnetonka Beach, Mound, Shorewood, Spring Park, Tonka Bay, part of Orono and parts of Chanhassen. Rep. Cindy Pugh presently holds the 33B seat and is in her third term in office.

Morrison is a practicing physician and sixth-generation Minnesota resident. According to the press release, Morrison has served on boards for women’s health, the literary arts and eliminating racism. Morrison lives in Deephaven.

“I’m running because I care deeply about our community, our state, and our country,” Morrison said. “I’m very concerned about the current state of political discourse and I want to be a part of constructive, progressive, positive problem-solving.”
