Erik Paulsen Voted To Hurt My Mom: Rep. Peggy Flanagan

St. Louis Park’s state representative took to Twitter Thursday to criticize Congressman Erik Paulsen’s vote for American Health Care Act.

ST. LOUIS PARK, MN — Republicans in the House of Representatives, including Minnesota Third District’s Erik Paulsen, voted to pass the American Health Care Act Thursday by the slim margin of 217-213 with no Democratic votes. GOP leadership has partially recovered its wounded pride after its embarrassing first attempt to pass the bill ended in abject failure in March.

In response, St. Louis Park state Rep. Peggy Flanagan, who represents an area within Paulsen’s district, issued a series of critical tweets at the Republican:

This is my amazing mom and me. She’s a senior and on Medicaid. @RepErikPaulsen just voted to hurt my mom and those like her.

Flanagan continued:

She worked in the medical field for most of her career caring for folks who were battling cancer. She gave her all.

She suffers from chronic illness. She smiles through the pain as she plays with her granddaughter. She deserves better.

She is your constituent and called you today. She shared her story, her fear. There are thousands more like her. Do better.

The health care bill faces an uphill battle to pass the Senate. And the Republicans’ victory today may yet be undercut by the substance of the AHCA, which roused widespread opposition from interest groups, pundits and the public. If the bill becomes law and the critics prove correct, the effects of policy could unleash waves of resistance to the Republican governance as millions of people previously insured under Obamacare lose coverage.
