Veterans Day is a time to reflect on what it means to be an American and to thank the millions of men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. Everyday Americans across this country put their lives on the line in order to keep us safe, sometimes thousands of miles away from their friends and loved ones. While others end up being injured in the line of duty. This is why it is so important that we honor this day.
Communities across America will celebrate Veterans Day with parades, ceremonies, acts of goodwill and stories about what it means to fight for America. I encourage everyone to show your gratitude to every man and woman that has served, and is currently serving in the military.
I also encourage you to show your support for our troops every day. You can do this by joining me in supporting the beyond the yellow ribbon program. This is a pioneering program that hopes to change how soldiers are reintegrated back into their communities. The program is a reminder that the support of soldiers cannot end when they return from deployment. Many area communities and businesses now participate in this program. You can go to the Minnesota National Guard’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon website for more information.
