Paulsen Vote Tracker: H.R.5053

Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act

SUMMARY:  The bill prohibits the Treasury Department from requiring that the identity of most contributors to 501(c) tax-exempt organizations be included in annual returns, regardless of the size of the contribution — a restriction that would apply to donors to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations.

Paulsen voted:  YES

TAKE AWAY:  In the past, 501(c)(3) charitable organizations and 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations had to disclose their donors to the IRS.
