Sen. Melisa Franzen (SD49) Update: December 15, 2017

A holiday message from your Senator

Season’s Greetings,

I want to take this opportunity to wish you a warm and happy holiday season as we close out 2017 and we welcome the New Year. I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends as I also prepare for the 2018 legislative session.

Reflecting on this past year, I have been inspired by our community advocacy on issues that affect all Minnesotans. I have engaged with many of you on issues such as health care, education, infrastructure, and the environment. I am proud to serve such an active constituency.

During the 2018 session we will address a new fiscal challenge as we are facing the first projected budget deficit since 2013 (click here to read the forecast). After six positive forecasts in a row, budget demands and federal uncertainty have shaken the base of our Minnesota budget, resulting in an immediate budget deficit of $188 million and a $586 million shortfall for the next budget cycle. I will always stand up for responsible tax and spending policies at the legislature and remain committed to keeping our fiscal house in order.

I want to thank you for reaching out to my office to express your concerns and for staying engaged in the process of government. Your voices matter and I truly value your perspectives.

I look forward to seeing you around the district this holiday season. As always, please feel free to contact me or visit our Capitol.

Warm Wishes,

Melisa
