Why These Voters Rejected Hillary Clinton but Are Backing Joe Biden

New York Times logo

For many Democrats and independents who sat out 2016, voted for third-party candidates or backed Donald Trump, Mr. Biden is more acceptable to them in ways large and small than Mrs. Clinton was.

Samantha Kacmarik, a Latina college student in Las Vegas, said that four years ago, she had viewed Hillary Clinton as part of a corrupt political establishment.

Flowers Forever, a Black transgender music producer in Milwaukee, said she had thought Mrs. Clinton wouldn’t change anything for the better.

And Thomas Moline, a white retired garbageman in Minneapolis, said he simply hadn’t trusted her.

None of them voted for Mrs. Clinton. All of them plan to vote for Joseph R. Biden Jr. Continue reading.

State Dept. Inquiry Into Clinton Emails Finds No Deliberate Mishandling of Classified Information

New York Times logoThe report appears to bookend a controversy that dogged Mrs. Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

WASHINGTON — A yearslong State Department investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server found that while the use of the system for official business increased the risk of compromising classified information, there was no systemic or deliberate mishandling of classified information.

The inquiry, started more than three years ago, found that 38 current or former State Department officials were “culpable” of violating security procedures in a review of about 33,000 individual emails sent to or from the server that Mrs. Clinton turned over to investigators.

The nine-page unclassified report, completed last month and shared with Congress this week, appears to bookend a controversy that dogged Mrs. Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign against Donald J. Trump. Mrs. Clinton blamed the F.B.I.’s handling of the inquiry for crippling her campaign after James B. Comey, then the bureau’s director, reopened his investigation into the server days before the general election after initially declining to bring charges.

Americans recoil in disgust as Trump rages about Hillary on the 18th anniversary of 9/11

AlterNet logoOn Wednesday, as the nation remembered the 18th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Donald Trump followed up his tweet marking the occasion with a disjointed, angry rant about “Crooked Hillary,” “Sleepy Joe,” “Pocahontas,” and the “fake news” media cooking up “suppression polls” to sabotage him:

Donald J. Trump

In a hypothetical poll, done by one of the worst pollsters of them all, the Amazon Washington Post/ABC, which predicted I would lose to Crooked Hillary by 15 points (how did that work out?), Sleepy Joe, Pocahontas and virtually all others would beat me in the General Election….

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

….This is a phony suppression poll, meant to build up their Democrat partners. I haven’t even started campaigning yet, and am constantly fighting Fake News like Russia, Russia, Russia. Look at North Carolina last night. Dan Bishop, down big in the Polls, WINS. Easier than 2016!

18.4K people are talking about this

Commenters on social media were not impressed with how the president of the United States chose to kick off a solemn day of remembrance:

Trump praises N.H. lawmaker who called for shooting Hillary Clinton

President Donald Trump on Thursday praised a New Hampshire Republican who previously called for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to be shot by firing squad.

Speaking at a rally in Manchester, N.H., Trump gave a shoutout to state Rep. Al Baldasaro, who had previously served as an informal adviser during his 2016 campaign. Baldasaro had been diagnosed with cancer, Trump said during the rally, and he added that his apparent recovery and successful treatment were a testament to the changes to the Veterans Choice Program that Trump signed into law last year.

On Fox News, Rudy Giuliani Threatens Hillary Clinton With Payback

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani — somehow emboldened by the special counsel report that exposed Trump as a thin-skinned criminal who welcomed foreign interference in the 2016 election and attempted to obstruct justice multiple times — took to the Fox News airwaves to Wednesday morning to issue overt threats to Hillary Clinton.

In an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” the morning show that looks more like Trump state television than a news program, Giuliani baselessly claimed Clinton somehow was the reason why the Mueller probe began, and that the Trump Department of Justice is going to indict her next.

“How this ever got started in the first place is the next investigation. And Ms. Clinton better get a lawyer,” Giuliani said, referring to Mueller’s probe that has led to multiple former Trump campaign staffers being indicted, convicted, or pleading guilty to a litany of crimes.

Graham Urges Appointment Of Special Counsel To ‘Look At’ Clinton, Comey

South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, one of Trump’s most vociferous defenders in the Senate, has declared that he will use his power as chair of the Judiciary Committee to pursue his greatest obsession: Hillary Clinton’s emails. But that’s not enough for the senator. He wants Trump’s attorney general, William Barr, to join in his obsession.

“I know Bill Barr pretty well, and he’s pretty upset about the way all this was handled,” Graham said in a Sunday interview on Fox News. “I don’t know if he’s going to have a special prosecutor to look at the probability of criminal misbehavior.”

Graham’s “evidence” of suspicious behavior is that “nobody in the Clinton investigation went to jail for lying about the process because there was no process.” That doesn’t suggest to Graham that Clinton and her campaign were innocent, as the exhaustive investigations of her concluded.

Senators trash Lindsey Graham for wanting to investigate Hillary emails more

Instead of investigating Trump crime and corruption, Lindsey Graham will attack Hillary Clinton.

Trump ally and golf buddy Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is being mocked for his plans to use the Senate Judiciary Committee to settle old scores and abuse his power by investigating Hillary Clinton.

Graham only recently became the chairman of the committee. And rather than investigate the wide array of scandals that have surfaced involving Trump, Trump’s henchman, the Trump family, and other Republicans, Graham said he wants to investigate Clinton’s email server and the decisions that led the FBI to investigate Trump campaign aides like Carter Page.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) laughed about Graham’s plot, saying Graham was trying to relive the “thrilling days of yesteryear.”

Trump Presence Felt During Poignant Moments of Bush 41’s Funeral

Hillary Clinton ignores president before George W. Bush’s emotional eulogy for father

President George H.W. Bush’s funeral, by design, was not about the sitting commander in chief, but there were moments when Donald Trump’s presence was paramount.

The 41st president’s son, George W. Bush, never mentioned the 45th president by name during his humorous and emotional eulogy for his father. But there were moments during his remarks that made clear the deep differences between the elder Bush and Trump.

“Of course, dad taught me another special lesson; he showed me what it means to be a president who serves with integrity, leads with courage and acts with love in his heart for the citizens of our country,” the 43rd president said in his familiar Texas drawl.

Bossie Confesses: There Was A Right-Wing Conspiracy Against Clinton

More than 20 years after the fact, following decades of smug denials, one of the operatives in the “vast right-wing conspiracy” has confessed to its existence.

The longtime far-right activist David Bossie of Citizens United offered that confession on Fox News Sunday, where he appeared to promote a new book he co-authored with former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. Bossie, who also toiled in the Trump campaign and remains close to the president, blurted the truth to host Chris Wallace almost inadvertently. But with someone who lies almost as routinely as his idol Trump, Americans have to be satisfied with his moment of truth.

Describing several White House aides attacked by Bossie and Lewandowksi, Wallace said that “they wanted to control the president instead of, as you said in your first book, to ‘let Trump be Trump.’”
