Kasich speech to Democratic convention follows years of building conservative credentials

2016 rival to Trump didn’t attend GOP convention in home state

As a House member and initially as the Republican governor of the Ohio, John Kasich was known for his ardent conservatism — one of Speaker Newt Gingrich’s loyal lieutenants, an architect of the 1997 balanced budget agreement who later fought unions and abortion in the Buckeye State.

But Monday night, the lifelong Republican told the Democratic National Convention that all Americans should vote for former Vice President Joe Biden.

“I know the measure of the man,” said Kasich, noting that he has known the longtime Delaware politician for 30 years. “He’s reasonable, faithful, respectful, and you know, no one pushes Joe around.” Continue reading.

Former Republican governor goes off on Trump for complaining about states asking for life-saving medical supplies

AlterNet logoSpeaking on CNN this Thursday, former Republican governor of Ohio, John Kasich, tore into President Trump over his response to the coronavirus outbreak, saying he’s furious about the difficult challenges facing medical professionals as the coronavirus continues to spread.

“There is an issue here where we’re weakening the things that we put in place after World War II to keep the world safe and reflect our values. We can’t afford to walk away, Chuck. Because if we walk away, this thing collapses. And who wins? The authoritarians. The Russians and the Chinese. Not good for our country, and not good for freedom,” he said.

“There is a battle now. The Russians and the Chinese want authoritarian-type government, okay? And we’re walking away from our allies on trade agreements, this Iran thing, we’ll see how that turns out,” he continued. Continue reading “Kasich: US is ‘weakening’ post-WW2 alliances”
