Donald Trump is spending his day at Mar-a-Lago hosting a parade of journalists for sit-down interviews as he tries to get in front of a coming wave of damaging books, according to a new report.

Axios co-founder Mike Allen told MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt that he’s obtained a list of 22 interviews the twice-impeached one-term president has given in recent weeks, with some of the book authors going back for more than one visit.

“He’s given 22 interviews to book authors, several people double-dipped,” Allen said. “He spent an hour and a half, two hours, [and] some of the people are then invited to stay and have dinner at Mar-a-Lago, and why it matters, President Trump, who’s said very little, besides to conservative outlets, knows he’s going to be everywhere. This rush of Trump books that will start in July, and he wants his voice out there.” Continue reading.

Palm Beach actively planning for possible Trump indictment: report

Raw Story Logo

Law enforcement officials in Donald Trump’s new hometown are preparing for the possibility of the former president getting indicted.

Officials in Palm Beach County, Florida, have taken part in planning sessions in case Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance secures an indictment against Trump while he’s at his Mar-A-Lago residence — and working out what might happen if Gov. Ron DeSantis invokes an obscure state law to protect his fellow Republican, two high-ranking county officials told Politico Playbook.

“The statute leaves room for interpretation that the governor has the power to order a review and potentially not comply with the extradition notice,” said Joe Abruzzo, circuit court clerk for Palm Beach County. Continue reading.

Self-Proclaimed White Nationalist Parties With Republicans At Trump Resort

National Memo logo

Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer, who has said she is “pro-white nationalism,” was in attendance at an official Republican Party fundraiser held at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday.

Loomer is running for the seat in Florida’s 21st Congressional District currently held by Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel, a rematch of the race in the 2020 election cycle that Loomer lost to Frankel by 20 points, despite the support of Lara Trump, the wife of Donald Trump’s son Eric.

Mar-a-Lago, where the elder Trump is currently living, is within the 21st Congressional District. Continue reading.

Stephen Miller is mercilessly mocked after tweeting awkward photo of ‘terrific meeting with President Trump!’

AlterNet Logo

Former top Trump White House aide Stephen Millertweeted a photo of himself with the former President at Mar-a-Lago and declared, “Just had a terrific meeting with President Trump!”

The comments about Trump’s Mar-a-Lago office, and both men’s hate-filled attacks on the United States, were crushing – and some urged room-rating Twitter accounts to take this one on. Others mocked the former president for trying to hide a Coke bottle amid the GOP’s supposed boycott of the soda brand after it spoke out against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s voter suppression law. Some mentioned Miller’s affinity for white nationalism, or worse. Continue reading.

Members are quitting ‘sad’ Mar-a-Lago after Trump loses

NEW YORK(CNN Business) — Many once-loyal members of Mar-a-Lago are leaving because they no longer want to have any connection to former President Donald Trump, according to the author of the definitive book about the resort.

“It’s a very dispirited place,” Laurence Leamer, historian and author of “Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump’s Presidential Palace,” told MSNBC host Alex Witt on “Weekends with Alex Witt” Saturday. He said members are “not concerned about politics and they said the food is no good.”

Leamer said he spoke to a number of former members who “silently walked out” after Trump left office. Continue reading.

Mar-a-Lago neighbors send a clear message to Trump: We don’t want you

AlterNet logo

President Donald Trump’s neighbors in Florida have a message a very clear message for him as his post-presidential days approach: do not make Mar-a-Lago your permanent residence because “we don’t want you to be our neighbor.”

According to the Washington Post, on Tuesday morning that blatant message was sent to the president in the form of a demand letter. Addressed to Palm Beach, Fla., and the U.S. Secret Service, the letter served as a reminder of the legal reason why Trump cannot claim Mar-a-Lago as a permanent residence. Palm Beach attorney Reginald Stambaugh, noted that the problem centers on Trump’s transformation of the residence into a private golf club.

Here’s Why Trump Won’t Live At Mar-A-Lago When He’s No Longer President

President Donald Trump may not have conceded yet, but it appears that he’s already started looking into upgrading his private residences at his “winter White House,” Mar-a-Lago. Sources have told People: “[The Trumps] are definitely renovating his apartment within the Mar-a-Lago Club to make it larger, more modern and comfortable for his use.”

In September 2019, President Donald Trump changed his main residence from Manhattan to Palm Beach. He went on Twitter to explain the move, saying: “I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state.”

“Few have been treated worse. I hated having to make this decision, but in the end it will be best for all concerned,” he finished. When the announcement was made, The Washington Post reported he listed his permanent address to 1100 S. Ocean Blvd, Palm Beach — or Mar-a-Lago. Continue reading.

Trump’s Florida voter registration trips ups his Mar-a-Lago plans

AlterNet logoAmid all the intensity and serious of pandemic, this little fable with no international significance has been percolating over in a quiet corner of our world.

Once upon a time, a couple of months ago, Donald Trump moved his formal residence – and voting address – from the gilded Trump Tower in New York City to the equally exclusive Mar-a-Lago in West Palm Beach. But, in doing so, he stubbed his toe on local regulations that now are keeping him from adding a dock to his property.

Maybe he plans to move from golf to boating. More likely, he wanted to serve his high-flying friends and visitors at Mar-a-Lago by providing a waterside mooring. Continue reading.

Trump made Florida his official residence. He may have also made a legal mess.

Washington Post logoFor nearly a quarter-century, President Trump has envisioned boats docking at Mar-a-Lago, his swanky club set on 17 acres of prime real estate in Palm Beach, Fla., that rambles across manicured grounds between the beach and the placid waters of the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Trump’s quest has, predictably, irked his wealthy neighbors, sparking one of those pesky territorial squabbles that occupy town halls and zoning boards in tony neighborhoods across the country. But the attempt by Trump and his legal team to squeeze through approval of his dock while the nation’s attention is trained on the coronavirus pandemic is now surfacing a potentially nettlesome problem for the president.

Digging into the catacombs of local records to build an argument against the dock, a small group of loosely aligned preservationists, disgruntled neighbors and attorneys have unearthed documents that they assert call into question the legality of Trump’s much-publicized decision late last year to change his official domicile from Manhattan to Mar-a-Lago and to register to vote in Florida using the club’s address. According to those documents, and additional materials obtained by The Washington Post, Trump agreed in writing years ago to change the use of the Mar-a-Lago property from a single-family residence to a private club owned by a corporation he controls. Mar-a-Lago forced to shut down for coronavirus ‘deep cleaning’ after multiple guests test positive

AlterNet logoPresident Donald Trump’s beloved Mar-a-Lago resort won’t be open to the public Monday. The nearly one-hundred year-old Florida mansion and members-only club will be shut down for a deep cleaning after several guests of the President later tested positive for the coronavirus. Among them, several members of the Brazilian president’s administration.

“Members were notified via email that the club will be closed Monday for cleaning,” CNN reports.

But after the deep cleaning, details of which were not made public, is complete, it will be business as usual. Continue reading.
