DFL Party Criticizes Trump & MN GOP for Infecting Minnesotans with COVID-19 at Trump Rally

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, the Minnesota DFL Party sharply criticized the state Republican Party and Trump campaign for holding a rally that wound up infecting nine Minnesotans with COVID-19, landing two people in the hospital, and sending one individual to the I.C.U.

The DFL Party has previously criticized the Minnesota GOP for holding maskless political events. The Minnesota GOP Chairwoman, Jennifer Carnahan, responded on Twitter by bragging about not wearing masks at political events

DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:

“From the start of this pandemic, Donald Trump and Minnesota Republicans have ignored public health experts and put their re-elections ahead of the health of Minnesotans. It was only a matter of time until the dangerous, maskless campaign events staged by Donald Trump and Minnesota Republicans landed Minnesotans in the hospital.

Kurt Daudt Found Attacking Bonding Projects “Just for One Little Community”

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, Minnesota House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt was already expressing disdain for the bonding projects requested by Minnesota’s local elected officials and community leaders.

In an interview from the start of 2020, Daudt attacks the needs of municipalities across Minnesota, saying that if certain bonding proposals are the things that we would consider not regionally important, they’re just for one little community, we don’t really, frankly, want to have those sorts of things in a bonding bill.

Daudt’s dismissal of the importance of local infrastructure investments pre-date the COVID-19 outbreak and expose the fact that House Republicans are not willing to set aside their far-right ideology in the face of a stalled national economy and the need to create jobs in Minnesota.

DFL Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Representative Daudt’s comments make it clear that Minnesota Republicans are still putting their extreme ideology ahead of the needs of Minnesotans everywhere. Instead of investing in Minnesota at a time when our national economy is struggling, Republicans continue to dismiss the need to create jobs and support the ‘little communities’ that Kurt Daudt dismissed.

“Daudt and House Republicans may not care about putting Minnesotans back to work by taking on projects like rebuilding the city hall that burned down in Ellsworth or helping with flood mitigation in Albert Lea, but DFLers do. Our party is committed to boosting Minnesota’s economy and improving Minnesotans’ safety and quality of life by passing a robust bonding bill.”

Who is the Republican-Controlled Legislature Working For?

Is that Republican agenda working for you, fellow citizens?

Call me a slow learner. It was finally after reading about another rollback of current policy by the Legislature that I figured it out. The notion has been rolling around in my head for an embarrassingly long time without the words to define it, but now I have the words. Those in power at the Legislature this year are not promoting a Minnesota agenda. It’s a Republican agenda. Good for the state? Who cares? Good for Republicans? Pass it any way you can.

I’m furious at the attempts to roll back environmental rules, reduce clean air and water protections, remove voter-protection policies, refuse to protect internet privacy — the list could go on and on. I wasn’t born in Minnesota, but I have lived here since 1966. I value the quality of life that Minnesotans — old and new — value and are proud of. I love our lakes, clean air (I came from California, where in 1966 you really could see the air you had to breathe at the end of the block), our clean election system and campaign-finance rules, and our desire to care for the least among us. I love a lot of other things as well. But I don’t love the Republican agenda. Going back to the days of robber barons and “Father Knows Best” doesn’t work for me. I want progress, advancement, a rising tide lifting all boats. Nope. The Republican agenda doesn’t work for me, and it doesn’t work for Minnesota.

Minnesota Republicans following GOP nominee’s divisive lead

Osmek, DavidMinnesota Republicans continue to follow Donald Trump’s divisive lead by embracing his ignorant and detestable rhetoric.  In a week where the GOP presidential nominee is trying to pivot away from past offensive statements on race, immigration and religion, Minnesota Republicans are feeding off of the toxic culture he has created.

This week, Republican State Senator David Osmek echoed the dystopian vision of the GOP standard bearer on an appearance on the AM 1130 Morning Show when talking about education:

“Boy, those schools are just doing a crack job aren’t they? Whoops, I shouldn’t use crack and schools and Minneapolis because frankly there’s probably a lot of it there.” [TCNT Morning Show, Monday 8/22/16] Continue reading “Party of Trump Alive and Well in Minnesota”

GOP Racist Messaging

Screen Shot 2015-11-23 at 9.27.43 PM“Yesterday the Minnesota 7th Congressional District Republican Party posted the following statement on their Facebook page: “MN #‎DFL now propose a “special session” to deal with their self-created “#‎Negroproblem”.

You don’t have to look far to find ignorant hate speech masquerading as acceptable party messaging.  However, this is not the first time the Minnesota Republican Party and their affiliates have posted racially insensitive material.

“The GOP is clearly out of touch on issues of race here in Minnesota and around the country.  Regrettably these comments have become commonplace in the Republican Party  and it should be no surprise that they are now an accepted and normal part of their conversation.

While our community is still struggling with the death of a young man and trying to find answers for his family, the Republican Party of Minnesota decided to chime in with racist and bigoted comments. There is absolutely no place for this kind of ugly language in our state and we call on Chairman Downey to apologize to the people of Minnesota for the racist and bigoted comment from the Minnesota 7th Congressional District Republican Party.”
