What are his generals telling Trump on North Korea?

The following article by James Hohmann with Breanne Deppisch and Joanie Greve was posted on the Washington Post website August 10, 2017:

THE BIG IDEA today is by Robert Costa. James returns next week.

Remember this scene?

“These are central casting. If I’m doing a movie, I’d pick you general,” a smiling President Trump said months ago (see the video above) during his inaugural luncheon at the Capitol, pointing at Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. “And General Kelly,” he added, gesturing toward John F. Kelly, his pick to run the Department of Homeland Security.

Those were simpler times. Now, it’s August and as he works from his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., President Trump is facing one of the biggest crises of his presidency: escalating hostility from North Korea, which intelligence reports show has miniaturized a nuclear warhead. The following article by Brandon Carter was posted on The Hill website August 5, 2017:

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) this week blasted Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement that the Department of Justice is considering stricter measures to prevent leaks, saying the leaks would stop if there were no “lies, crimes and stupid stuff.”

“Dear Lyin Sessions: Leaks are interesting if they expose lies, crimes & stupid stuff,” Lieu tweeted Friday. “Stop the lies, crimes & stupid stuff and leaks go away.” Continue reading “Democrat to ‘Lyin Sessions’: Stop the lies and the leaks will go away”

Trump Tweets Suggestion of an ‘Uprising’ if Trump-Russia Grand Jury Indicts

The following commentary by TommY Christopher was posted on the Independent Journal Review website August 4, 2017:

President Donald Trump is engaged in a monumentally dangerous new phase in his battle against the ever-progressing Trump-Russia collusion investigation, a phase which the mainstream political media has so far missed badly.

At his West Virginia rally Thursday night, Trump issued a thinly veiled threat that his millions of supporters are counting on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation to go his way.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) noticed the new strategy on Friday morning, observing that Trump retweeted a much more explicit suggestion along the same lines: Continue reading “Trump Tweets Suggestion of an ‘Uprising’ if Trump-Russia Grand Jury Indicts”

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) got a rock star’s reception Tuesday night at an Aliso Viejo town hall organized by liberal activists in Orange County who are working to oust Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa).

Activists invited Rohrabacher to speak but he declined.

The event instead served as a pep rally for activists and a networking event for the stable of Democratic candidates seeking to challenge Rohrabacher in 2018.

Rohrabacher’s seat has been rated a toss-up by political prognosticators, and some of his challengers have been raising money at a considerable clip despite being new to politics.  Continue reading “Rep. Rep. Ted Lieu Explains Why He Called Donald Trump an ‘Evil Man’

Ted Lieu is out-tweeting Trump, and it’s making him a political star

Rep. Lieu will be joining us at our upcoming (September 10, 2017) Jackie Stevenson Dinner. Here’s a recent article talking about him we thought you’d be interested in.

In the packed auditorium at the Creative Artists Agency, a vortex of entertainment industry power and current progressive political woe, comedian Kathy Griffin — tiny, insistently red-tressed — erupts in full-throttle rasp at the man in the boxy gray suit as he finishes up onstage.

“I saw you on the Joy Reid show on MSNBC,” Griffin says, coming up from the audience to address Rep. Ted Lieu, a California Democrat speaking at the CAA Foundation’s Take Action Day. “You’re giving us hope!”

A trio of sleek female agents surrounds Lieu, as if he’s some TV heartthrob like actor Joshua Jackson, who is on the same environmental panel yet attracting far less attention.

“You’re a rock star,” they gasp. “We love your tweets.”

With Lieu, it’s all about the tweets. Since the inauguration of Donald Trump, Lieu has become a tweeting demon, famous as the man, as the Los Angeles Times put it, “trolling the Tweeter in Chief.” Continue reading “Ted Lieu is out-tweeting Trump, and it’s making him a political star”
