Top Dem calls on Trump to speak out about Moore

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in a Sunday show interview called on President Trump to speak out about the allegations levied against Alabama Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore.

“President Trump is the leader of the Republican Party in America,” Durbin told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Durbin argued Trump has a responsibility to “say more and do more,” noting other members of the GOP who have called on Moore to step aside from the Senate race if the allegations prove true.

Former Moore colleague: ‘Common knowledge’ that he dated high school girls

A former colleague of GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore said Saturday that it was “common knowledge” that the Alabama Republican dated high school girls when he worked in the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office in the 1980s.

In a statement to CNN, Teresa Jones, who served as deputy district attorney for Etowah County, Ala., from 1982 until 1985, said that multiple people thought it was unusual that Moore dated high school girls, but that no one ever raised the matter with him.

“It was common knowledge that Roy Moore dated high school girls, everyone we knew thought it was weird,” Jones told CNN. “We wondered why someone his age would hang out at high school football games and the mall … but you really wouldn’t say anything to someone like that.” Continue reading “Former Moore colleague: ‘Common knowledge’ that he dated high school girls”

McConnell: Moore Must Step Aside If Allegations True

Ala. candidate initiated sexual encounter with girl, reports say

Updated 3:17 p.m. | Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is accused of initiating a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32, according to The Washington Post.

“If these allegations are true, he must step aside,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday.

Leigh Corfman said she was approached by Moore in 1979 outside an Alabama courtroom in Etowah County and exchanged numbers with him.

Later, he drove her to his house and kissed her, she said. In another encounter, Corfman said Moore took off his clothes and undressed her while she touched his underwear.

“I wanted it over with — I wanted out,” she told the Post.
