Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) allegedly used campaign funds to promote his new book, a violation of federal la, a new report says.

According to The Daily Beast, the concerns stem from Cruz’s usage of campaign funds to run ads on Facebook as a way of promoting his new book, “One Vote Away: How A Single Supreme Court Seat Can Change History.” From September to October of 2020, Cruz allegedly ran a total of 17 ads on his official Facebook political candidate page to raise awareness about the new book.

The publication reports that the sponsored Facebook posts, which the social network filed in its political ads library, featured a clip of the Texas senator encouraging his supporters to purchase the book from a number of online booksellers as he included links to book marketplaces like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million. Dick Durbin slams Ted Cruz for lying about LGBTQ Equality Act and ‘religious liberty’

AlterNet logo

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Tuesday apparently tried to make a soundbite speech for Fox News while falsely characterizing the LGBTQ Equality Act and its impact on “religious freedom.” Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) was not going to allow Cruz’s political grandstanding get in the way of an important confirmation hearing.

Cruz, under fire for months now over various scandals, including his role in the January 6 insurrection, has gone as far as doing a photo op showing him holding a case of bottled water after his Cancun excursion when he left millions of his constituents in the middle of a sub-freezing winter storm without power or water.

On Tuesday Cruz tried the “religious liberty” approach, attacking civil rights attorney and champion Vanita Gupta. Continue reading.

Ted Cruz uncorks profane rant on neighbors who leaked chats about Cancun vacation plans

Raw Story Logo

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) this week uncorked a profane rant against whichever one of his neighbors leaked private chat transcripts about his infamous trip to Cancun to the New York Times.

During an appearance on the “Ruthless” podcast hosted by former Mitch McConnell campaign manager Josh Holmes, Cruz ranted about neighbors who were included in group chats started by wife Heidi Cruz in which she informed them of the family’s plans to escape snowstorm-stricken Texas to stay on the warm beaches of Cancun.

“I will say, Heidi was pretty pissed at that,” Cruz said. “She was over at the neighbor’s house yesterday, sort of walking through that… We have a number of Republicans who are neighbors but we also have a lot of Democrats, folks on our streets who put up Beto signs, which I thought was a little rude.” Continue reading.

Cruz is trying to repair his public image after his Cancún trip. He’s still feeling the heat.

Washington Post logo

Already in hot water after a trip to Cancún amid a statewide emergency, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) seems to be trying to chill disapproval.

In what appeared to others to be a bid to rehab his image, Cruz posted photosof himself Saturday passing out packs of water bottles to Texans struggling without clean water. On Sunday, he expressed outrage about skyrocketing utility bills, calling for regulatory action. But Cruz’s tweets in the wake of his trip have further fanned the flames of criticism, putting the junior senator under fire for his response to the winter storms that devastated Texas.

In photos Cruz posted of himself with the caption #TexasStrong, he is wearing a face mask with the Texas flag on it and distributing water bottles to people, shaking a maskless woman’s hand in one picture. He appeared to be in Harris County, posting more photos the next day in close contact with first responders, serving them barbecue. Immediately after his initial posts, responses flooded in, condemning Cruz for disregarding federal guidance, which not only advises against traveling to Mexico because of the number of coronavirus cases there, but also recommends that travelers stay home for seven days once they’ve returned to reduce the spread of the virus. ‘No ethics’ Matt Gaetz criticized for having ‘no moral high ground’

AlterNet logo

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, decided to weigh in on Ted Cruz abandoning his constituents for a trip to sunny Cancun while some of them literally froze to death. Gaetz came out by defending Cruz, saying no apology was necessary.

More specifically, Gaetz gaslighted the general public, by saying, “Ted Cruz should not have apologized.”

The Senator from Texas who used his two little girls as a shield for his bad behavior did not apologize. Continue reading.

‘Nitwit’ Donald Trump Jr faces brutal backlash for ‘idiotic’ defense of Ted Cruz’s Cancun vacation

Donald Trump Jr.’s attempt to weigh in on Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) public relations debacle after he was busted fleeing frozen and devastated Texas with his family for a luxury resort in Cancun did not go well when the son of the ex-president couldn’t get simple facts straight.

While most Republicans are keeping their distance from Cruz — who is already in apology mode — Don Jr. felt the need to jump in on Cruz’s side and it didn’t go well.

“The hypocrisy of those trying to cancel Ted Cruz who have been totally silent on their Democrat Governor’s incompetence is telling. My thoughts on the Cancún Cruz fauxoutrage! #Cruz #CancunGate is fake,” he wrote — which led to more than a little confusion over what a “Democrat Governor’s incompetence” had to do with the collapse of the Texas power grid and the outrage is fake. While Ted Cruz was rushing back to America, AOC raised $1 million for the people of Texas

Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and right wing extremists Erick Erickson, Dinesh D’Souza, Ben Shapiro, and Donald Trump, Jr., all thought there was nothing a sitting U.S. Senator could do for the millions of people freezing and starving in the Lone Star State.

After massive internet outrage – outrage that was called “cancel culture” today in a rant from Trump Jr. – Senator Cruz hightailed it back to America from his Cancun crash pad at the Ritz Carlton, put out a statement lying about the origins of his Mexico excursion, literally lied some more, and came home to a his Houston home that was empty except for his dog Snowflake and his security guard hanging out in his car in the driveway.

While the Texas Senator was doing all this, a Congresswoman from New York City went to work for his constituents, because someone had to. Continue reading.

Ted Cruz abandoned his poodle ‘Snowflake’ in a ‘freezing’ house for Cancun vacation: report

The political optics of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) fleeing Texas for a Cancun vacation while millions in Texas were without electricity and/or water continues to get worse.

Michael Hardy, a reporter for New York Magazine, investigated the claims that the Cruz house did not have power. In text messages reviewed by The New York Times, the senator’s wife Heidi said the house was “freezing.”

“Supplied with Cruz’s address by a knowledgeable friend, I drove the fifteen minutes from my Houston apartment to the uber-rich River Oaks neighborhood where Cruz lives,” Hardy explained. “From the street, Cruz’s white, Colonial Revival-style mansion looked dark and uninhabited. A neighbor informed me that the block had indeed lost power before finally getting it back late Wednesday night. A glance at the lighted lanterns flanking the doorways of other homes on the block confirmed this. The senator’s story appeared to check out. But then I heard barking and noticed a small, white dog looking out the bottom right pane of glass in the senator’s front door. Had Cruz left his dog behind?” Continue reading.

Ted Cruz’s Cancún Trip: Family Texts Detail His Political Blunder

New York Times logo

The Texas senator faced fierce blowback for fleeing his state as a disaster unfolded. Text messages sent by his wife revealed a hastily planned trip away from their “FREEZING” family home.

Like millions of his constituents across Texas, Senator Ted Cruz had a frigid home without electricity this week amid the state’s power crisis. But unlike most, Mr. Cruz got out, fleeing Houston and hopping a Wednesday afternoon flight to Cancún with his family for a respite at a luxury resort.

Photos of Mr. Cruz and his wife, Heidi, boarding the flight ricocheted quickly across social media and left both his political allies and rivals aghast at a tropical trip as a disaster unfolded at home. The blowback only intensified after Mr. Cruz, a Republican, released a statement saying he had flown to Mexico “to be a good dad” and accompany his daughters and their friends; he noted he was flying back Thursday afternoon, though he did not disclose how long he had originally intended to stay.

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was “FREEZING,” as Ms. Cruz put it — and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed “many times,” noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts. Continue reading.

Ted Cruz asks Houston cops to help him get out of airport as Texans rage over Cancun trip: report

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is flying home amid widespread outrage over his decision to fly to Cancun while millions of his residents are freezing amid mass power outages.

Now ABC News reporter Ben Siegel brings word that Cruz’s staff reached out to the Houston Police Department to see if they could supply personnel to help the senator make his way out of Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

“Cruz’s staff contacted HPD personnel at IAH on Wednesday… and requested assistance upon the Senator’s arrival at the airport,” Siegel reports. “HPD officers monitored his movements through the terminal.” Continue reading.
