DFL Party Statement on Trump’s Push to Delay the 2020 Election

SAINT PAUL, Minnesota – Today, Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin issued the following statement on Donald Trump’s push to delay the 2020 elections:

“Let’s be clear about what’s happening here: President Trump is suggesting we delay the 2020 election almost immediately after the United States surpassed 150,000 deaths due to COVID-19 and suffered the worst economic nosedive in American history.

“This has nothing to do with mail-in voting. Donald Trump is terrified of being held accountable by the people of Minnesota for his complete and utter failure to stop COVID-19 from wreaking havoc across our state and our nation. Throughout his life, Donald Trump’s wealth and power have enabled him to get away with fraud, sexual assault, corruption, tax evasion, and so much more. However, American democracy cannot and will not be subverted, and on November 3rd, 2020, Donald Trump will have to face the verdict of American voters.

“I ask those Republican elected officials in Minnesota with any respect for our Constitution to join me in denouncing this dangerous and anti-democratic move.”
