Keeping up the vaccine momentum

COVID-19 Vaccinations Map

Minnesota has been one of the country’s leading states for educating our population and getting COVID-19 vaccines into arms. The more everyone pitches in, the faster we can get back to opening our businesses and getting our kids back in school. I’m proud to represent a district where we look out for each other by getting vaccinated and following CDC guidelines.

Board action aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050

Net Zero Greenhouse Gas by 2050

My colleagues and I have updated the county’s goals to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with an interim goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030.

The board adopted other related actions, including:

  • Establishing a new director position of Climate and Resiliency
  • Adopting an Earth Day resolution recognizing the importance of environmental education, community engagement, and partnerships
  • Joining the U.S. Plastics Pact

County begins 2021 road and bridge construction season

Road Construction

Hennepin County is ramping up work for the 2021 transportation construction season. During the year, the county will deliver on several projects designed to get residents around safely and efficiently. Learn more about what we will be doing this construction season at https://www.hennepin.us/constructionprojects.

In the next few weeks, crews will begin smaller-scale road and bridge projects, including safety improvements, road repaving, restriping and pavement sealing projects, as well as bridge maintenance activities. More information about these projects can be found at www.hennepin.us/roadmaintenance.

We remind people to allow for extra time and to slow down when traveling past construction sites and county crews.

Service Notices – Driver’s License Renewal, Online Marriage License, Property Tax Deadline

Driver’s license renewal

Appointments for renewing your driver’s license may be booked out far in advance. Avoid the wait by using online service options when possible. View service options.

Online marriage license services to end soon

Starting May 29, remote marriage license services will not be available (per state law). Make sure to plan ahead and get your license or make an appointment now. View service options.

County property tax deadline extended for some taxpayers

There will be no penalty for taxes paid by June 15 for taxpayers who meet with the following conditions:

  • Taxes must not be escrowed with your mortgage payment
  • The taxpayer must owe less than $50,000 on May 17 in taxes for all properties owned

To support local on-going county, city and school functions, we expect all taxpayers who can make full payment by May 17 to do so, regardless of escrow status or amount of taxes due.

Hennepin County Library

Library Book Check Out

Library due dates have returned

Over the past year, Hennepin County Library was automatically extending all due dates, preventing any items from being due. This practice ended on April 26 and ordinary due dates have returned. The due dates displayed in your account or on your checkout receipt are now accurate.

Hennepin History Museum

HC History Museum Terrace Theater Exhibit

Final curtain call!

America’s Finest Theatre – the museum’s exhibit on the historic Terrace theatre in Robbinsdale – ends soon. Don’t miss your last chance to revisit this mid-century architectural gem and the story of its creation and heyday, and the efforts to save it from the wrecking ball. The exhibit ends with an extra showing on Sunday, May 23 – the 70th anniversary of the Terrace opening in 1951.
