And that’s why Trump gives more interviews to Fox News than anyone else

Part of President Trump’s appeal to his base is that he doesn’t speak like a normal politician. This is occasionally described as his being willing to tell it like it is, which isn’t true because he so frequently lies or says things that are misleading. But it does seem fairly obvious that his choice of words is generally not calculated, his phrasing not polished by concerns about how his comments will be interpreted.

But, of course, there’s a reason politicians generally try to communicate deliberately: It helps them avoid saying things that might offend voters or stir up controversy. This has never been a concern of Trump’s, often to the consternation of his staff and allies. They’re left cleaning up after him, as when White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday had to try to explain why Trump tweeted false claims about coronavirus-related deaths and why he expressed appreciation for a thread of comments defending a murder suspect in Wisconsin.

Having someone around to clean up any problematic comments is also why Trump has given more interviews to Fox News than any other outlet as president. Continue reading.

DFL Party Statement on Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTAToday, DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement on Joe Biden’s selection of Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate:

“I could not be more excited to join DFLers across Minnesota in voting for Joe Biden for President and Kamala Harris for Vice President of the United States of America. Senator Harris has dedicated her life to serving the American people, fighting for working families, and building a more just and equitable country. As the daughter of immigrants and the first Black woman to serve California as Attorney General and in the United States Senate, I know that Kamala Harris can help heal the divisions across our nation that Donald Trump has spent his life exacerbating.

“The truth is, Donald Trump has failed the American people. One in ten American workers are out of a job, over 5.1 million Americans have been infected by COVID-19, and over 160,000 are dead. Senator Harris is a fighter with a record of taking on powerful people and special interests and winning, from big banks to big oil companies to predatory for-profit colleges. I have no doubt that Harris will be a tremendous leader in the fight against the historic corruption, mismanagement, and incompetence of the Trump administration.”

New Video Shows Jason Lewis Proclaiming He’s ‘Not Real Keen’ on Certain Minnesotans Voting

Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin called Lewis’ comments “outrageous and undemocratic.”

Lewis’ newly surfaced comments come as tens of thousands of Minnesotans have lost their jobs or taken a pay cut due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and amid all of this Lewis has repeatedly expressed opposition to making it easier for Minnesotans to vote by mail.

Lewis made the comments on a public affairs show he co-hosted called Face-to-Face: Continue reading “New Video Shows Jason Lewis Proclaiming He’s ‘Not Real Keen’ on Certain Minnesotans Voting”
