Statement on DFL House Advancing Ban on Conversion Therapy

Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement in response to the Minnesota House of Representatives adding an amendment banning the use of conversion therapy on minors to their HHS omnibus bill.

“I strongly encourage Minnesota Senate Republicans to take up the ban on conversion therapy that the DFL controlled House of Representatives just voted on. Conversion therapy is a discredited practice based on junk science and it should not be used on the youth of Minnesota.

“For far too long, Republicans have fought tooth and nail against freedom, dignity, and equality for LGBTQ Americans. Their thinly veiled prejudice has to end.

“The DFL stands ready to protect Minnesota’s children by banning conversion therapy. It’s time for Republicans to join us and stop putting their extreme ideology before the youth of our state.”

DNC and State Parties Announce Historic Agreement on Democratic Data

DNC Takes Major Step Forward In Chair Tom Perez’s Overhaul Of Democratic Data And Technology

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Democratic state parties today announced a landmark agreement to achieve a critical component of Chair Tom Perez’s overhaul of Democratic data and technology by participating in a data exchange that will allow candidates, state parties, the DNC and the progressive ecosystem to share data and leverage all of the voter contact work of the entire Democratic community. In a vote this afternoon, state parties agreed to join with the DNC to acquire and swap data in real time with a new outside identity, the Democratic Data Exchange (DDEx), which will also acquire and swap data with progressive allies on a blind basis. Former DNC Chair Howard Dean will serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the DDEx.

This historic partnership between the DNC and state parties to expand and evolve the Party’s data and tech capacity is the product of months of work by DNC Chair Tom Perez, DNC Senior Advisor Mary Beth Cahill, and Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC) President Ken Martin.

Through the DDEx, Democratic campaigns will share their data to become the beneficiaries of cutting-edge investments in voter-contact strategies by outside groups, while those groups gain the tremendous benefits of access to the Democratic Party’s unrivaled voter data. As a result of this agreement, the Democratic Party and its allies have an unprecedented opportunity to unify the use of data across campaigns, up and down the ticket. Whether you’re working for a campaign or an outside group, whenever you talk to a voter, the entire progressive community can benefit from the outreach. New Website Highlights Republicans’ Extreme Nominee for Minnesota Attorney General

Doug Wardlow wants to use the AG’s office to serve President Trump and big corporations, not Minnesota families

Wardlow has proudly worked for an anti-LGBTQ hate group, opposes the ACA and a woman’s right to choose

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) today launched a new website to inform Minnesotans about the extreme Republican nominee for Attorney General, Doug Wardlow. Wardlow, a former one-term State Representative, has vowed to use the Attorney General’s office to serve President Trump’s agenda, from overturning the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade to suppressing voting rights.

“Minnesotans have a clear choice in the election for Minnesota Attorney General,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “Congressman Ellison has dedicated his life to defending equal rights and greater opportunity for all Minnesotans, while Doug Wardlow has spent his career attacking the rights of LGBTQ people, women, and workers. We need someone in the Attorney General’s Office who will stand up for working families, not work for President Trump and big corporations.”

The new website, RealDougWardlow.com, and accompanying Facebook & Twitter pages, will highlight Wardlow’s commitment to politicizing the Office of Attorney General to serve President Trump, and his work for an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

During his one term in the Minnesota House, Wardlow worked to block and overturn the Affordable Care Act, and pushed extreme anti-labor legislation against the will of his own party. Learn more about Wardlow at RealDougWardlow.com.

DNC Announces Historic Organizing Investment In Minnesota Base Communities Ahead of November Elections

Today, the Democratic National Committee is announcing a nearly $88,000 grant to the Minnesota DFL to boost engagement in African American, Latinx, and Hmong communities in Minneapolis-St. Paul ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. Combining traditional boots-on-the-ground organizing with innovative digital and technological tools, these investments will support the DNC’s IWillVote initiative, which aims to reach 50 million voters by Election Day. This new investment is in addition to the $100,000 already awarded to the Minnesota DFL through the State Party Innovation Fund.

Most recently, the DNC announced a multimillion-dollar investment, which includes a nationwide cell-phone acquisition, a complete overhaul of the party’s data for voter-registration targeting and further data investments for the party’s voter-protection efforts. As part of the DNC’s IWillVote program, the DNC plans to launch a six-figure digital ad buy across the country to encourage Americans — with a focus on sporadic voters, especially those who dropped off in 2014 from 2012 — to commit to vote this November. DFL Voices Support for Task Force on Sexual Harassment

In a letter today to Representative Erin Maye Quade, Representative Jamie Becker-Finn, and Lindsey Port, DFL Chairman Ken Martin voiced his support for the establishment of a Task Force on Sexual Harassment at the State Capitol. Per their previous request that the DFL name an expert to the task force, he appointed Former State Senator Tarryl Clark. The full letter is available here.

“This task force is a critical step toward creating a culture of respect at the State Capitol-one that empowers those who have been harassed, holds perpetrators accountable, and deters sexual misconduct in the first place,” DFL Chairman Ken Martin wrote in the letter. “We must work together to tear down the institutional obstacles that keep victims from reporting inappropriate behavior and perpetuate sexual misconduct in the workplace.”  Continue reading “DFL Voices Support for Task Force on Sexual Harassment”
