Like Father, Like Son: President Trump Lets Others Mourn

New York Times logoWhether he is dealing with the loss of a family member or the deaths of nearly 150,000 Americans in a surging pandemic, President Trump almost never displays empathy in public. He learned it from his father.

WASHINGTON — The Marble Collegiate Church on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan was packed with developers, politicians and New York celebrities, more than 600 in all, for the funeral of Fred C. Trump, the builder whose no-frills brick rental towers transformed Brooklyn and Queens.

Three of his four living children, who had grown up listening to the sermons of the church’s most famous minister, Norman Vincent Peale, offered loving eulogies to their father. Then it was Donald Trump’s turn.

He began by talking about himself. Continue reading.

The two favors that may have helped Trump avoid fighting in the Vietnam

President Trump’s avoidance of the war in Vietnam is neither new nor unique. Each of the two baby-boomer presidents who preceded him — Bill Clinton and George W. Bush — worked the system to keep from having to fight in a war that quickly became seen as, at best, a horrible mistake. But Trump’s success at avoiding the draft is remarkable in part because of the contrast that can be drawn between his rhetoric on the military and veterans and the way in which he managed to avoid service — an effort that a new report from the New York Times helps flesh out in fuller detail.

It seems that two favors, two years apart, made almost all of the difference.

Donald John Trump was born June 14, 1946. When the Vietnam draft lottery began in 1970, he was 24 and out of college, seemingly positioned to be quickly added to the ranks of those being shipped to the expanding conflict. But that didn’t happen.

Want to Know More About: Trump Tax Fraud

Adam Davidson: “We Realized [Trump Organization] Was Built On Fraud And That Trump Himself Added Very Little Value To No Value. It Was Just Inherited Money Passed On To His Son Through Fraudulent Means.” ADAM DAVIDSON: “First of all, the New York Times piece, this massive 14,000 word investigation I think it will take a while for sort of the body politic to absorb it, but it is a fundamental game changer. It really reveals that the trump organization was far more than even people like me who are highly skeptical, far more than we realized was built on fraud and that Trump himself added very little value to no value. It was just inherited money passed on to his son through fraudulent means.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 10/5/18; VIDEO]

Adam Davidson: “We’re Going To See Multiple, Multiple Investigations With A Goal Of Pursuing His Wealth And The Trump Tax Bill In New York State Alone Just For New York State Taxes Is Over $400 Million.” ADAM DAVIDSON: “We have a situation where the main places trump does business, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Virginia, California are likely to have or Florida the race is too close to call, democratic attorneys general and all democratic candidates are saying yeah we’re going hard after the trump organization. My understanding is attorneys general, state attorneys general have been differential to Mueller. They’ve not wanted to step in too aggressively. That’s over come January. We’re going to see multiple, multiple investigations with a goal of pursuing his wealth and the trump tax bill in New York state alone just for New York state taxes is over $400 million if the “New York Times” story bears out. If you add up all those states plus federal think that must be what’s scaring him more than the possibility of removal.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 10/5/18; VIDEO]

Want to Know More About: The Trump Family’s Tax Scheme

Mika Brzezinski: “According To The Special Investigation, Trump Is Earning $200,000 In Today’s Money By The Age Of Three And Was A Millionaire By The Age Of 8.” MIKA BRZEZINSKI: “President trump did plenty of impressions last night, including repeatedly mocking the memory of Dr. Christine blasey Ford who has accused supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her as a one thing he did not bring up was that sweeping expose. The headline is jarring, quote, trump ebb gauge in suspect tax schemes as he reaped riches from his father. According to the special investigation, trump is earning $200,000 in today’s money by the age of three and was a millionaire by the age of 8.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 10/3/18; VIDEO]

Willie Geist: “But The Long And Short Of It Is According To The New York Times, Through Tax Schemes, Donald Trump And His Family, He Arrived At About $413 Million From His Father, Not The $1 Million Loan He Suggested.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 10/3/18; VIDEO]

Mika Brzezinski: “He Also Helped Formulate A Strategy To Undervalue His Parents’ Real Estate Holdings By Hundreds Of Millions Of Dollars On Tax Returns, Sharply Reducing The Tax Bill When Those Properties Were Transferred To Him And His Siblings.” MIKA BRZEZINSKI: “New York Times expose that appears to shatter the president’s claim of being a self-made billionaire while implicating him in sketchy, possibly illegal tax schemes. The 19 month long investigation found that temp received today’s equivalent of $400 million from his father’s real estate empire beginning as a toddler and continuing to this day. As the “Times” reports much of the money came from trump because he helped his parents dodge taxes in the 1990s. He and his siblings set up a sham corporation to disguise millions of dollars in gifts from their parents, records and interviews show, records indicate that trump helped his father take improper tax deductions worth millions more. He also helped formulate a strategy to undervalue his parents’ real estate holdings by hundreds of millions of dollars on tax returns, sharply reducing the tax bill when those properties were transferred to him and his siblings. Tax experts tell the “Times” that the president is unlikely to face criminal prosecution for tax evasion because the statute of limitations has passed on any possible wrongdoing. But as the “Times” reports, there is no time limit on civil fines for tax frauds. The New York state damages department is reviewing the allegations.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 10/3/18; VIDEO] Continue reading “Want to Know More About: The Trump Family’s Tax Scheme”

Trump lit the torches of white supremacy in Charlottesville. We must extinguish them.

The following column by Petula Dvorak was posted on the Washington Post website August 13, 2017:

President Trump lit every one of those torches in Charlottesville.

Yes, the white supremacists have always been with us. A parade of racist bigots is no surprise to anyone familiar with our history, especially those who have been the target of hatred and violence for centuries.

But when the mob of white men marched in Charlottesville carrying flaming torches Friday night shouting “Heil Trump” as the curtain-raiser for a day of violent clashes with counterprotesters that left three people dead, they showed the world that America is once again playing with fire.

And Trump was the one with the match. Continue reading “Trump lit the torches of white supremacy in Charlottesville. We must extinguish them.”
