Herman Cain dies from coronavirus

Axios logoFormer Republican presidential candidate and ex-CEO of Godfather’s Pizza Herman Cain, 74, has died almost a month after being hospitalized for coronavirus.

The big picture: Cain, the co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, was in a high-risk group due to his history with cancer. Cain’s positive coronavirus test came less than two weeks after he attended President Trump’s controversial June 20 campaign rally in Tulsa, where he tweeted a picture of himself without a mask.

  • Public health officials had warned that the large-scale rally could infect many and put lives at risk.
  • It’s unclear whether Cain contracted the virus at the Trump rally.
  • While in the hospital, Cain commented on a July 4 celebration at Mt. Rushmore, tweeting: “Masks will not be mandatory for the event, which will be attended by President Trump. PEOPLE ARE FED UP!” Continue reading.

Herman Cain hospitalized with COVID-19 after attending Trump’s Tulsa rally

AlterNet logoHerman Cain, the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO who ran in the 2012 Republican presidential primary, has been hospitalized with COVID-19 in Atlanta.

According to a statement posted on the 74-year-old Cain’s Twitter account, the far-right Tea Party activist — who President Donald Trump, at one point, considered for the position of Federal Reserve chairman— was diagnosed with coronavirus on Monday. And on Wednesday, his symptoms had grown worse and “required hospitalization.”

The statement reported that Cain “is resting comfortably in an Atlanta-area hospital. Mr. Cain did not require a respirator, and he is awake and alert. There is no way of knowing for sure how or where Mr. Cain contracted the coronavirus, but we do know he is a fighter who has beaten Stage 4 cancer.” Continue reading.

Cain withdraws from Fed consideration

President Trump said Monday that former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has withdrawn from consideration to be nominated to the Federal Reserve Board amid GOP senators’ intense opposition.

“My friend Herman Cain, a truly wonderful man, has asked me not to nominate him for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board. I will respect his wishes. Herman is a great American who truly loves our Country!” Trump tweeted.

Four Republican senators said they would not support Cain, all but dooming his chances of confirmation. The decision marks a setback for Trump’s effort to install allies at the central bank, which has traditionally been independent of politics.

Trump has a habit of hiring people with histories of sexual misconduct. Herman

Cain fits a pattern for Trump nominees: abuse, sexual violence, and harassment.

President Donald Trump has recommended another man who has been accused of touching women without their consent for a major government position.

Trump announced last week that he has settled on Herman Cain, a former Godfather’s Pizza executive, for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board. Cain ended his 2012 presidential bid after four women came forward with sexual harassment allegations against him.

One of the women, Sharon Bialek, said Cain asked her for sex when she sought his help finding a job in 1990s. According to Bialek, he said, “You want a job, right?” as he ran his hand up her skirt. Karen Kraushaar, another woman who publicly spoke out, said Cain groped her in the 1990s.

CNN’s Tapper stuns White House advisor with video of woman accusing Trump’s Fed nominee of sexual assault

On Sunday, CNN’s Jake Tapper clashed with White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, a strategist known for his partisan cheerleading on the economy. The two of them fought over Herman Cain, the former pizza executive and Tea Party presidential candidate President Donald Trump is tapping for a top position on the Federal Reserve.

“You know you’ll face questions about this,” said Tapper. “Herman Cain dropped out of the 2012 race because of numerous sexual harassment allegations, multiple women. He denies them all. I want you to take a listen to one of the accusers.” He then played a clip of Sharon Bialek, a woman who claimed Cain “reached for my genitals … grabbed my head and pulled it towards his crotch” during a job interview.

“There are at least four women who have allegations like this,” said Tapper. “Again, Cain denies they’re true, but doesn’t this trouble you?”

Trump Says He Wants Herman Cain, Former Pizza Executive, for Fed Board

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Thursday that he planned to nominate Herman Cain, who abandoned his 2012 presidential bid in the face of escalating accusations of sexual misconduct, for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board.

Mr. Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, called Mr. Cain, the former chief executive of Godfather’s Pizza, “a truly outstanding individual” and said, “I’ve told my folks that’s the man.”

The decision to consider Mr. Cain is the second time in weeks that the president has floated candidates with deeply held political views and past ethical issues to fill a seat on the Fed, signaling his intent to put allies on a traditionally independent body. It comes as Mr. Trump has continued to attack the Fed and his handpicked chairman, Jerome H. Powell, for raising interest rates in 2018, saying those moves slowed economic growth.
