Will Violent Criminals Be Released If Minnesota Becomes A Sanctuary State?

Minneapolis (WCCO) — Three weeks before the election, Minnesota Republicans are warning that dangerous criminals will come to the state if Democrats win the election.

It is part of a TV ad campaign from an outside group called Freedom Club, linking Democrats to illegal immigration and sanctuary cites.

In one ad, a woman in her kitchen shows frustration and trepidation about the Democrats running for governor and attorney general.

The anti-Muslim movement in Minnesota is growing this year, especially during the midterm election, leaders from the Center for American Islamic Relations Minnesota (CAIR-MN) and Isaiah, a coalition of faith communities, said Tuesday.

The two groups released a report, “Minnesota’s Anti-Muslim Propaganda Mill,” identifying who they think is financing and producing anti-Muslim rhetoric in the state.

“The focus is now shifting toward [anti-Muslim]. It started to shift in 2016 elections, and now it’s doubling down in 2018 elections,” said Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR-MN. “That’s why the topic of refugee resettlement is a huge topic, but it’s really just a Minnesota Nice way of saying ‘We don’t want Muslims here.’ ”

Jeff Johnson would leave behind Minnesota’s youngest learners

With many students heading off to early childhood programs this week, Minnesotans should know that while Johnson says he would support early education, his record says otherwise.

“A bright future for our youngest learners means a bright future for our state’s economy,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “Minnesota needs a governor that will take the future of our youngest Minnesotans seriously, not someone who will throw spare change at early childhood education.”

Mounting his bid for governor of Minnesota, GOP’s Jeff Johnson says he’ll stick with Trump

The following article by Jessie Van Berkel was posted on the Star Tribune website August 27, 2018:

Candidates across the country are carefully weighing the Trump factor on midterm races. Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Johnson praises Trump’s policies, but noted that he doesn’t always agree with the president.

Republican candidate for governor Jeff Johnson said his support for President Donald Trump, a likely boost in his recent upset victory in Minnesota’s primary election, will not waver as he turns to the general election and tries to win over a much wider and less conservative set of voters.

“I support him. I like what he is trying to do. I like the direction he is trying to take the country,” Johnson said of Trump during an interview with the Star Tribune. “I don’t always agree with him.”

Candidates across the country are carefully weighing the Trump factor on midterm races. Republicans are wondering whether to align with or distance themselves from a president beset by controversies and persistently low approval ratings, but who is still popular with party loyalists. Democrats must decide whether to go hard at Trump in a nod to their own base, or elevate more issues-based appeals to win over less politically tuned-in voters.

Capitol View Jeff Johnson: I want Trump’s backing

NOTE:  This is an older article, but now that the November ballot has been finalized, we thought it made sense to post the position of the Republican candidate for Minnesota Governor, Jeff Johnson.

The following article by Brian Bakst was posted on the MPR News website June 12, 2018:

Jeff Johnson, the endorsed Republican candidate for Minnesota governor, said Tuesday he’ll head to Duluth next week to be on hand for President Donald Trump’s visit.

The Hennepin County commissioner said he doesn’t yet know if he’ll have a formal role in the presidential campaign rally. Trump is coming to promote congressional candidate Pete Stauber in the 8th District.

But Johnson said he hopes Trump takes a stand in the governor’s race, too, as the president has in some other states with contested GOP primaries.

DFL Chairman Ken Martin statement on Trump tweet on supporting Johnson

“Fresh off Jeff Johnson’s primary victory, President Donald Trump was tweeting out his full support for the GOP nominee. You can tell a lot about a person by who they stand with and Johnson continues to stand with Donald Trump.

“The writing is on the wall for Minnesotans: If elected, Johnson will promote Trump’s anti-immigrant, anti-farmer and anti-worker agenda. Since his election, Trump has worked to take health care away from those who need it most; provide billions of dollars of tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy; and make it harder for families to get ahead and stay ahead.

“As our next governor, Tim Walz will build One Minnesota where no matter where people live, or where they come from, they will have the opportunity to build a brighter future for their families.

“Minnesotans want to move forward, not accept the hateful Trump rhetoric that divides our state and nation.”

DFL Chairman statement on Jeff Johnson winning the GOP Gubernatorial Primary

Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin today released the following statement on Jeff Johnson winning the GOP Gubernatorial Primary:

“Jeff Johnson’s values are far to the right of Minnesota. While voters seek a uniter and a leader in the Governor’s Office, Johnson’s campaign has opted to demonize minorities and the poor. His transformation from mild-mannered Hennepin County Commissioner who was afraid to tout his Tea Party endorsement in 2014, to bile-filled Trump clone, has been startling to watch.

“The self-proclaimed ‘Scott Walker of Minnesota’ is exactly what Minnesota doesn’t need at this time and the only thing that failed worse than his last gubernatorial run, is the economic ideas that he proudly supports. Unequivocally, Jeff Johnson and his far right agenda are losers for Minnesota.”
