Rep. Hagedorn Calls Sitting U.S. Senator a Nazi

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, in a post on his campaign Facebook page, Congressman Jim Hagedorn referred to Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren as a “national socialist,” a term synonymous with Nazism.

Ken Martin, Chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party released the following statement calling on Hagedorn to delete his statement and issue an apology:

“It is completely reprehensible that Congressman Hagedorn would refer to a sitting United States Senator as a Nazi. If Hagedorn has an ounce of respect for the office he holds, he will immediately retract that statement and issue a full apology to Senator Warren and the people of the first district.

“Unfortunately, given Hagedorn’s history of inflammatory rhetoric and extreme behavior, from referring to female Senators as ‘bimbos in tennis shoes’ to banning constituents from his district offices, I am not going to hold my breath.

“Minnesotans won’t always agree with our representatives, but we expect them to be decent human beings. Time and time again, Jim Hagedorn has failed to meet that low bar.”

ICYMI: “Hagedorn bans Indivisible from district office visits”

Yesterday, the Mankato Free Press published an article titled “Hagedorn bans Indivisible from district office visits” which described Hagedorn’s decision to ban constituents from visiting his district office. Hagedorn attempted to justify this decision by claiming the group was “purposefully trying to distract his staff from their jobs and becoming a nuisance to other tenants inside the Brett’s Building in downtown Mankato.”

Hagedorn’s staff has even gone so far as to call the Mankato Police on the Hagedorn’s own constituents twice, with both instances ending in the police determining they “weren’t doing anything wrong and left.” Hagedorn is clearly committed to preventing differing viewpoints from being expressed in his office, displaying once again his unfitness for the office he holds.

DFL Repeats Call for Minnesota GOP to Denounce Trump’s Blatant Racism

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Yesterday, Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin called on top Minnesota Republicans to denounce President Trump’s multiple, racist attacks on Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar. Thus far, they have refused to do so.

Today, in response to Republican silence, Martin released the following statement:

It’s past time for Minnesota Republicans to put politics aside and do what is right for our country by denouncing Trump’s racist attacks on Representative Ilhan Omar. ‘Nobody is holding them against their will’: Rep. Jim Hagedorn’s border comments spark backlash

The Congressman addressed constituents last week in Rochester.

Minnesota Republican Rep. Jim Hagedorn faced backlash for his comments about conditions on the U.S. southern border at a recent Rochester town hall.

Addressing the audience at Rochester Community and Technical College last week, one constituent asked 1st District Rep. Hagedorn why he supported what they called “government-sponsored child abuse.”

Hagedorn pushed back on the accusation and the comparison of detention centers at the border to concentration camps, prompting some boos from the crowd.
