DFL Repeats Call for Minnesota GOP to Denounce Trump’s Blatant Racism

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Yesterday, Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin called on top Minnesota Republicans to denounce President Trump’s multiple, racist attacks on Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar. Thus far, they have refused to do so.

Today, in response to Republican silence, Martin released the following statement:

“Courage should not be a partisan issue. Standing up to racism should not be a partisan issue. It’s past time for Minnesota Republicans to put politics aside and do what is right for our country by denouncing Trump’s racist attacks on Representative Ilhan Omar. Vice President Mike Pence is launching a cross-country campaign tour aimed at boosting Republicans who are confronting an increasingly perilous 2018 midterm election.

Pence is slated to take over a dozen political trips through April, most of them to assist House Republicans who are fighting to keep control of the chamber.

The schedule has taken shape following a meeting earlier this month between President Donald Trump and congressional leaders at Camp David. The following article by Shannon Prather was posted on the StarTribune website January 6, 2017:

A Republican leader told organizations: “Be ready to deliver accountability.”

DFL Rep. Rena Moran urged a bold presence at the Capitol.

Senate Deputy Majority Leader Michelle Benson delivered a blunt message Friday to nonprofit leaders seeking state funding: Be prepared to prove your worth.

“When it comes to accessing public dollars, you will want to work really hard to prove what you’ve already done with the dollars you’ve already been given, whether it’s public dollars or private dollars,” said Benson, R-Ham Lake. “Be ready to deliver accountability.”

Benson was one of several state politicians on both sides of the aisle to address more than 200 nonprofit leaders Friday morning at the Minnesota Council on Nonprofits’ annual legislative session preview in St. Paul. Continue reading “Republican control of Legislature fuels anxiety among nonprofits”
