Controversial Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) excited the left on Saturday after a clip from her speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) provided fodder heading into the 2022 midterm elections.

“We’re here to tell government we don’t want your benefits. We don’t want your welfare,” she said. Continue reading.

‘The anointment of God’: Rep. Boebert’s July 4 rally speech was filled with Christian nationalism

Wearing her usual holstered firearm U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Independence Day injected a heavy dose of Christian nationalism into her speech in Mesa County, Colorado. Rep. Boebert said sees her constituents as “an army for everything that Jesus has purchased for us and our children, and our children’s children.”

The QAnon-supporting far right Christian conservative was just back from her trip to a Trump rally in Sarasota, Florida, where the former president called her out by name, helping to fuel her brand.

On Sunday in Colorado she made sure to pack her speech “full of God references,” as the Colorado Times Recorder reports. Continue reading.

Republican lashes out at ‘capitulation’ of GOP to Trump — and says Lauren Boebert clearly knew about Jan. 6

Raw Story Logo

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a 43-year-old Air Force veteran, always assumed that there would be a “career-ending” vote he would have to take. But according to a New York Times profile, Kinzinger assumed it would be about Social Security instead. After the attack on the U.S Capitol Jan. 6, it became clear what he would have to do.

“I made the decision early in my career that I would be willing to take a potentially career-ending vote,” he told the Times. “But I thought that vote would be for something like a Social Security reform bill. I never thought it would be for defending democracy.”

He explained that things have changed because there is so much mistrust, and since Jan. 6 not many other Republicans have joined him. Continue reading.

Boebert Suggests Her Election Was Divinely Ordained

National Memo logo

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Thursday described her 2020 House election victory in terms often used by Christian conservatives that place U.S. politics in a context of biblical miracles.

During an interview with Tony Perkins, president of the far-right anti-LGBTQ Family Research Council, Boebert said, “My victory in this race is certainly a sign and a wonder, just like God promised.”

Telling Perkins about “the journey that Jesus took me on as I was called to Congress,” Boebert said that she voted for Donald Trump, “who defended the right to life and honored the Bible.” Continue reading.

Biden official shuts down Lauren Boebert: ‘That’s not a question with an assumption I’m going to assume’

Raw Story Logo

Acting White House Budget Director Shalanda Young on Wednesday refused to recognize a question from Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) because it assumed that the Biden administration had ceded control of the southern border to Mexican cartels.

Boebert asked the question during a House Budget Committee hearing.

“How long will you be ceding the southern border to the cartels?” she wondered.

Young responded by pointing out that the Trump administration had diverted funds from the U.S. military to use for border control. Continue reading.

GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert inadvertently admits to ‘destroying our freedoms’ in latest Twitter rant

AlterNet Logo

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) is facing heightened backlash on Twitter for her latest controversial tweet about America’s “freedoms.” On Friday, April 9, the Colorado lawmaker highlighted the vast nature of American citizens’ freedoms as she claimed one political party was “laser-focused on destroying our freedoms,” reports The HuffPost.

“We live in the freest country on planet earth,” Boebert tweeted. “The rest of the world envies our freedoms. Meanwhile, we have a political party that is laser-focused on destroying our freedoms. It is not only shocking but very dangerous.

Although Boebert did not name the Democratic Party, specifically, it is presumed that she was referring to President Joe Biden’s latest executive orders focused on combatting the widespread issue of gun violence in the United States; an order the Republican lawmaker has outwardly condemned repeatedly over the last several days. ‘How dare you’: Gun-glorifying Lauren Boebert buried for tweet about Colorado mass shooting victims

Raw Story Logo

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) came under withering criticism on Twitter late Monday for her tweets about the mass shooting at a Colorado grocery store, with many pointing out her avid support for more guns on the streets of the United States.

As reporting on the shooting was breaking, the gun-toting lawmaker was busy tweeting, “The White House just called a lid at 1:13pm today. Biden is back in the basement, figuratively at least. Meanwhile, the country is in chaos and the border is coming apart at the seams.”

An hour later she finally addressed the shooting, with a tweet offering the usual “prayers” for victims — a pro forma message usually delivered by conservative lawmakers every time there is a mass gun-related act of violence. Continue reading.

Rep. Boebert makes a baffling and conspiratorial claim, saying the GOP may retake Congress ‘before 2022’

AlterNet logo

Rep. Lauren Boebert, a far-right GOP congresswoman known for embracing the QAnon conspiracy theory, covered a lot of ground on Monday night during a town hall event in Montrose, Colorado — where she railed against everything from “cancel culture” to the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that President Joe Biden recently signed into law. Things became especially bizarre near the end of the event when Boebert expressed hopes that Republicans will retake both houses of Congress before the 2022 midterms.

One of the attendees asked Boebert if there is “any hope for the people” when “top-level government officials…. violate the law,” adding, “Will they ever be held accountable?”

Boebert responded, “I want to tell you, I heard someone who is in very close contact with President Trump and the ins and outs of the White House under that administration. They talked to the owners of the Epoch Times, and they said, ‘Don’t change anything, you are right over the target.’ So, anyone who tries and tells you that this is a fringe newspaper — don’t listen to them. I have very good sources that tell me this is very good information.” Continue reading.

Rep. Boebert Claims Democrats ‘Tried To Cancel Jesus’

National Memo logo

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Monday compared herself to biblical figures who she said were similar to her in their purported opposition to “cancel culture.”

Boebert made her remarks at a town hall meeting in Montrose, Colorado.

“I refuse to bow to the cancel mob,” Boebert said, a reference to recent Republican complaintsabout the removal of Dr. Seuss books containing racist images and the renaming of Mr. Potato Head toys to be gender-neutral as the GOP struggles to counteract President Joe Biden’s popularity.

Boebert said “cancel culture” is “something that has been around since the beginning of time.” Continue reading.

Lauren Boebert’s tall tale about a man’s death that led her to pack heat

Washington Post logo

“When I became a business owner, I needed to protect myself. There was an altercation outside of my restaurant where a man was physically beat to death. There were no weapons involved. He was beat to death by another man’s hands.”

— Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), in a speech on the House floor, March 10

“Shortly after we opened our restaurant, there was an altercation where a man was beat to death … outside of my restaurant, beat to death by another man. No weapons. And I immediately wondered, how am I going to protect everyone?”

— Boebert, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Feb. 27

“After a violent incident outside my business, I took advantage of Colorado’s open-carry laws and began to carry at work.”

— Boebert, speaking in a viral ad, tweeted Jan. 3

We’re often interested in the “origin stories” of politicians — regular lines that they use over and over to explain their political motivations.

Boebert is a strong booster of gun rights. She arrived in Congress this year after leveraging her fame as the owner of a restaurant, Shooters Grill of Rifle, Colo., where the wait staff often serve customers with open-carry firearms. A sign outside tells customers that guns are welcome.

Over and over, Boebert says she started allowing her staff to carry guns after a man was killed outside her restaurant. But we’ve obtained police and coroner reports that show her story is mainly fiction. Continue reading.
