Proposal to hasten herd immunity to the coronavirus grabs White House attention but appalls top scientists

The six British patients seemed to have little in common besides this: Each was dealing with kidney failure, and each had tested positive for the coronavirus.

They were among scores of virus-stricken people showing up at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in the early weeks of April. Had they lived in the United States instead of the United Kingdom, the link that allowed the contagion to spread among them might have slipped by unnoticed.

But the U.K. had done something in the early days of the pandemic that the United States and many other nations had not. It funded a national push to repeatedly decode the coronavirus genome as it made its way across the country. The process reveals tiny, otherwise invisible changes in the virus’s genetic code, leaving a fingerprint that gives scientists valuable glimpses into how the disease is spreading. It’s a cutting-edge technique that was not widely available in previous global pandemics but that researchers think can help hasten the end of this one. Continue reading.

Trump returns to campaign trail after bout with covid-19, amid criticism he is still not taking pandemic seriously

President Trump returned to the campaign trail Monday, holding his first rally since being hospitalized earlier this month, as part of an intense effort to demonstrate that his bout with covid-19 is behind him and that he is the more vigorous of the two septuagenarian candidates vying for the presidency.

Yet Trump’s rally in Sanford, Fla., came amid concerns that his plans to barnstorm the country could put him and others at risk.

Though Trump has declared himself now “immune” to the virus — which has killed more than 214,000 Americans and infiltrated the White House — he and his team have not clarified for the public the last time he tested negative before his covid-19 diagnosis was announced Oct. 2. This has raised questions about whom Trump may have infected before isolating himself at the White House and then at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Continue reading.

Pence Hosts Maskless Rally At Retirement Community, Clearly Doesn’t Care About COVID

Pence hosts maskless rally at a retirement community among a population very susceptible to COVID-19

Honestly, at this point, I think the Trump-Pence administration is checked the eff out. If they actually wanted to win, they would stop trying to get their base sick. A week after the President of the United States contracted COVID-19, Vice President Pence held a rally at the world’s largest retirement community in Florida — you know, where the elderly live — and 3000 people came out and packed together and if I squint I can maybe see a mask or two.

The Florida rally took place at the 55 and over retirement community The Villages on Saturday, October 10, 2020, and Yahoo News reports that Tim Murtaugh, communications director for the campaign, bragged that 3,000 people were in attendance. Yes, 3000 people exposed to the virus for no good reason. Trump may be woefully uneducated about the coronavirus, but he does know that the very people who showed up to hear Pence speak are the same demographic that he knows are highly susceptible to virus complications. Jake Tapper Shoots Down Larry Kudlow For Claiming U.S. Is ‘Safely’ Living With COVID-19

“We’re not learning to live with the virus, Larry,” the CNN host said, pointing out 50,000 new infections daily in the nation.

CNN’s Jake Tapper scoffed at a claim by White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow Sunday that America is learning to deal with the coronavirus in a “targeted, safe, preventive way.”

Tapper told Kudlow to stick to what he knows — money.

“We’re not learning to live with the virus, Larry,” an incredulous Tapper said on “State of the Union.”

“We just had four days in a row of more than 50,000 infections,” he continued. “The death rate is the highest in the world.” Continue reading.

Candace Owens’ BLEXIT group pays for some attendees’ travel to Trump’s White House event

Attendees were told they “must” wear a BLEXIT shirt, according to emails.

Supporters, who are also scheduled to attend a separate BLEXIT event earlier in the day, were invited to attend a “HUGE outdoor rally” by the group and asked to fill out a form that notified them that BLEXIT, a campaign urging Black Americans to leave the Democratic Party, will be covering travel costs.

Guests were later informed they would be receiving an invitation from the White House to attend an event with Trump. Continue reading.
