President Trump‘s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, wrote a letter to Romania’s president criticizing the country’s anti-corruption efforts, according to a report from The New York Times.

In the open letter dated Aug. 22 to Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Giuliani expressed concern about the “continuing damage to the rule of law being done under the guise of effective law enforcement,” according to the Times.

Giuliani said the letter was sent as part of his work for his security company, Giuliani Security & Safety, with the former New York City mayor telling the Times he was “still an independent lawyer and consultant.”

A top GOP fundraiser and prominent backer of President Trump stepped down from his Republican National Committee post Friday after revelations that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen arranged a $1.6 million settlement with a former Playboy model the donor had impregnated.

Los Angeles-based investor Elliott Broidy, who has been a top fundraiser for Trump and the party, issued a statement Friday acknowledging that he “had a consensual relationship” with the woman, who got pregnant. He said he retained Cohen after Trump’s personal lawyer told Broidy he had been contacted by the woman’s attorney.

“It is unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen’s involvement,” Broidy said in the statement. Michael Cohen, a personal lawyer for Donald Trump, has filed defamation lawsuits in New York state court against Buzzfeed and Fusion GPS over the Steel Dossier, the memo alleging Russia has blackmail material on the president.

The dossier was compiled by former British intelligence operative Christopher Steele for Fusion GPS during the 2016 presidential election, and published by Buzzfeed on Jan. 10, 2017.

Cohen announced the suits Tuesday evening, saying on Twitter “Enough is enough of the #fake #RussianDossier. Just filed a defamation action against @BuzzFeedNews for publishing the lie filled document on @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and me!” Continue reading “Trump’s lawyer sues Buzzfeed, Fusion GPS for ‘defamation’ over Russia dossier”

President Trump’s personal lawyer said Sunday that the president knew in late January that then-national security adviser Michael Flynn had probably given FBI agents the same inaccurate account he provided to Vice President Pence about a call with the Russian ambassador.

Trump lawyer John Dowd said the information was passed to Trump by White House counsel Donald McGahn, who had been warned about Flynn’s statement to the vice president by a senior Justice Department official. The vice president said publicly at the time that Flynn had told him he had not discussed sanctions with the Russian diplomat — a statement disproved by a U.S. intelligence intercept of a phone call between Flynn and then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. President Trump’s lawyer on Wednesday fanned an already-incendiary racial debate by forwarding an email advocating protection of some Confederate monuments and claiming that the protest group Black Lives Matter had been infiltrated by terrorists.

Trump’s lawyer John Dowd told The Washington Post he “shares a lot of things with people” and said it was unfair to equate forwarding an email with espousing its contents. Continue reading “President’s lawyer jumps into racial controversy by forwarding inflammatory email”
