Trump walks back tweet saying Biden ‘won’ election

President Trump on Sunday walked back a tweet in which he said President-elect Joe Biden “won” the election while continuing to spread unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about a rigged presidential election. 

“He won because the Election was Rigged. NO VOTE WATCHERS OR OBSERVERS allowed, vote tabulated by a Radical Left privately owned company, Dominion, with a bad reputation & bum equipment that couldn’t even qualify for Texas (which I won by a lot!), the Fake & Silent Media, & more!” Trump initially tweeted in response to a clip from Fox News’s Jesse Watters.

“All of the mechanical ‘glitches’ that took place on Election Night were really THEM getting caught trying to steal votes. They succeeded plenty, however, without getting caught,” the president added in a subsequent tweet. “Mail-in elections are a sick joke!” Continue reading.

Ex-White House communications director is on a mission to stop Trump: ‘Something’s wrong with him mentally’

“I’m out there trying to educate as many people as possible at the systemic danger that Mr. Trump represents to our democracy.” Those were part of the opening words of my conversation earlier this week with former Trump White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on “Salon Talks.” And it went downhill from there for Trump.

I can’t recall another presidential election where as many former officials from a White House administration and members of the president’s own political party came out so vocally to defeat that very president. But then again, nothing has been normal in the time of Trump.

In our conversation, Scaramucci, a successful Wall Street investor, shared why he turned on Trump, citing events such as Trump’s family separation policy and, finally, when Trump led the “Send her back” bigoted smear of the four Democratic female members of Congress known as “The Squad,” saying they should go back to their own countries. As Scaramucci noted, this vile line of attack by Trump was personal for him; his own Italian grandparents heard the same hateful nativist comments when they first came to America. Continue reading.

Trump spews a disturbing and angry rant about the Obama administration over the Flynn case

AlterNet logoPresident Donald Trump is baselessly accusing the Obama administration of “treason,”  following the news the Dept. of Justice has dropped all charges against his former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn, despite Flynn having pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.

“The Obama administration Justice Department was a disgrace, and they got caught, they got caught,” Trump claimed, which is false. “Very dishonest people, but much more than – it’s treason, it’s treason.”

‘Bitter and vexed’ Trump exploded after aides rejected his ‘insane’ 7-minute birther disavowal in 2016: book

AlterNet logoPresident Donald Trump reportedly flew into a rage during the 2016 campaign after his lengthy and rambling statement on birtherism was edited down to something more concise and coherent.

The Trump campaign wanted Trump to disavow the birther conspiracy theory that had launched him on his way to the Republican nomination, but he instead dictated a seven-minute diatribe via conference call against Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, according to a new book excerpted by Vanity Fair.

“At first, the Republican presidential nominee was met with dead silence, with those on the line confused as to what the optimal response could possibly be,” wrote the authors of the forthcoming book, Sinking In the Swamp. “Multiple advisers wanted to tell him that his dictated statement was far, far, far too long and would cause many more headaches for the campaign than it would resolve. If released, this would defeat the purpose of everything the campaign staff was trying to accomplish on this front. And yet, no one wanted to upset Trump, whose legendary hair-trigger temper could easily be set off by the slightest sign of perceived insolence.” Continue reading.
