Thank You, Vice President Mondale

Words, inadequate as they may be, are all that we have to express our grief at the loss of a true friend to Minnesota, the nation, and to the Senate DFL Caucus.  We are saddened by the passing of former Vice President Walter Mondale and honor his memory.

Mr. Vice President, you inspired us, you led by example in teaching us that public service is about more than the spotlight.  It is truly about serving humankind and making a difference in people’s lives, and you never stopped doing that.  You lived the talk and taught us to do the same.

You were always gracious with your time.  Whether sharing advice with future leaders or taking the time to talk with young organizers about shared experiences in organizing – truly one of the ties that has bound generations of DFLers together – you were always an incredible mentor and friend as we sought to move our state forward.  For that we say thank you.

At Vice President Humphrey’s funeral you said this about him: “he taught us how to hope, how to love, how to win and how to lose, how to live and finally how to die.”

Today, we say back to you: Thank you for the love, the friendship, and most of all for the inspiring and honorable example of dedicated public service.
