President Donald Trump appeared to claim credit for booming house sales on Thursday, but folks online weren’t having it.
With sales of existing homes in the U.S. hitting their highest level in more than a decade, Trump shared this message on Twitter:
Home Sales hit BEST numbers in 10 years! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
Trump didn’t explicitly suggest he was responsible for the boost, but fellow tweeters believed he was giving off that impression by using his MAGA slogan.
Many responded by thanking former President Barack Obama, whose policies would have led to the jump. Others questioned why booming house sales were a good thing given how previous soaring numbers ultimately led to the 2008 global financial crisis:
You literally had nothing to do with this.
You had exactly NOTHING to do with any of this, man.
You haven’t even passed a budget yet.
You have implemented absolutely no policy that would have caused the home price rise. This is Obama’s doing.
On the other hand, your new tax plans will destroy the housing market. Give it 6-10 months.

Home sales don’t make a country GREAT. Taking care of those that CAN’T afford a roof over their heads is what makes a country great.
This tax bill will destroy those home sales numbers. When folks can’t deduct their property taxes, they will be jumping ship. Itemized deductions are what saved me lots of money. I will be screwed with this new bill. You have caused more pain and suffering since your election.
