Trump rages as Fox News hosts praise Michelle Obama

President Donald Trump lashed out at Fox News on Monday over its coverage of the Democratic National Convention despite appearing on the network just hours earlier.

Trump on Sunday complained that the network’s weekend news hosts were “not watchable” and “worse than Fake News @CNN.” He doubled down on his criticism on Monday, despite appearing on “Fox & Friends” that very morning, criticizing the network’s decision to air the Democratic Convention like every other news network.

“Fox will broadcast them more than they broadcast us. You know that,” Trump claimed during a speech in Minnesota, even though the network’s primetime lineup has been compared to North Korean state TV by critics for its fawning praise of the president and the hosts’ close ties to him. The Memo: Michelle Obama shines, scorching Trump

It was Michelle Obama’s night — again.

The former first lady was the standout speaker, by some distance, on the first night of the Democratic National Convention Monday.

Obama took the fight directly to President Trump in a pre-taped but emotive speech. She accused him of being “clearly in over his head” and being “the wrong president for our country.”  Continue reading.

Michelle repudiates Barack’s core tenet of politics in urgent plea to boot Trump

Democrats are still the party of Barack, but they are living in Michelle’s world

The Democrats believe President Donald Trump is a cancer that will slowly kill American democracy.

It’s hard to get people to kick a habit that causes cancer. You’re supposed to be encouraging and positive when you’re trying to nudge addicts to stop doing something that’s bad for them.

For most of the night Monday, the Eva Longoria-moderated Democratic convention — really just a series of recorded speeches and music videos — struggled to balance being entertaining and uplifting with communicating the dire consequences of the pack-a-day like habit that Democrats say Trump represents. The videos ranged from sober to saccharine. Many of the speakers, who lacked the feedback of a live crowd, were mocked as stiff. The speeches were treacly. Continue reading.

Michelle Obama takes hatchet to Trump record, character in convention speech

Former first lady Michelle Obama on Monday launched a direct attack on President Trump‘s character and record in the White House during a virtual address to the Democratic National Convention that opened and closed with a forceful call to vote.

“Let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can. Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country,” Obama said, wearing a gold necklace with the word “vote” spelled out. “He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”

Obama’s speech, capping off the first night of the virtual Democratic National Convention, was a remarkable rebuke from a former first lady of a sitting U.S. president. Continue reading.

Michelle Obama to lend star power to Biden

The Hill logoFormer Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign is planning a rollout for Michelle Obama’s endorsement, although there are questions around just how public a role the enormously popular former first lady will play in his campaign.

Sources tell The Hill that the Biden campaign’s early plans include a focus on remote fundraising and voter registration efforts.

The trick for Michelle Obama and the Biden campaign is finding the right balance for the pop culture icon, who could be a massive asset for the campaign but has never shown much enthusiasm for campaign politics. Continue reading.

Hillary Clinton ignores president before George W. Bush’s emotional eulogy for father

President George H.W. Bush’s funeral, by design, was not about the sitting commander in chief, but there were moments when Donald Trump’s presence was paramount.

The 41st president’s son, George W. Bush, never mentioned the 45th president by name during his humorous and emotional eulogy for his father. But there were moments during his remarks that made clear the deep differences between the elder Bush and Trump.

“Of course, dad taught me another special lesson; he showed me what it means to be a president who serves with integrity, leads with courage and acts with love in his heart for the citizens of our country,” the 43rd president said in his familiar Texas drawl.

Dems ready to move past Michelle Obama’s ‘go high’ message

Democrats are embracing Michael Avenatti’s call for the party to get more aggressive in the Trump era and hit back harder than the GOP when responding to attacks.

Avenatti, the attorney for adult-film star Stormy Daniels who is now considering a White House run, said at an event in Iowa on Friday that “when they go low, I say hit back harder.”

It was a nod to former first lady Michelle Obama’s “When they go low, we go high” mantra — a more hopeful, optimistic slogan that an increasing number of Democrats say belongs in the trash can for the time being.
