‘Enough Is Enough’: Former Republican Party Leader Says He’s Voting Blue In November

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Randy Johnson was on the Hennepin County Board for more than 40 years and a Republican party leader for more than 50 years, but now, he says he doesn’t recognize his party.

“I haven’t left the Republican party; the Republican party left me,” Johnson said.

Sitting in the backyard of his Bloomington home, Johnson says he wishes it were different, but the longtime elected official and Republican activist says the party of President Trump is not his party.

How I will be voting this year and why.

In the Nov. 6 election, I will do something for the first time in 50 years. I will be voting a straight DFL ballot.

After almost four decades as a Republican Hennepin County commissioner, 50-plus years as a Republican activist, and having probably chaired more Republican conventions than anyone in the state, let me say it simply: President Donald Trump is unhinged, and some of us who have been Republicans have to say it loud and clear.
