Nicolle Wallace pans Tim Scott’s rebuttal: ‘Delivered from a planet where facts don’t matter’

MSNBC anchors fact-checked Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) after his rebuttal speech following President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress.

“I do think it’s going to be hard for most people who are paying any attention to politics to swallow the Republican support making it easier to vote line and the long passage he had about how Democrats are the ones blocking police reform,” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow noted. “There’s some stuff there that may make sense in a sliver of Republican world, but in the news world, I don’t think will ring.”

“This is a speech delivered from a planet where facts don’t matter, which is where the current Republican Party resides, so it’s not really his fault, but it is his responsibility to get his facts straight,” Wallace said. Continue reading.

Rick Scott Ripped After Saying He Gave Trump ‘Freedom’ Trophy Because ‘He Worked Hard’

Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott was criticized on social media Sunday after he said he gave former President Donald Trump the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s (NRSC) Champion of Freedom award because he “worked hard.”

Scott, chairman of the NRSC, bestowed Trump with the inaugural award during a GOP donor retreat at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach earlier this month. In a statement, the NRSC said the “award is presented to conservative leaders who have worked tirelessly to create good jobs, protect the values that make our country great, and stop the Democrats‘ socialist agenda.”

At the time, Democrats and critics of the divisive former president quickly took to Twitter to slam Republicans for giving Trump the award, with some calling it a “participation trophy.” Continue reading.

Rick Scott says the public has ‘buyer’s remorse’ over Biden. The public disagrees.

President Joe Biden’s approval ratings remain high.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) claimed on Tuesday that the American public has “buyer’s remorse” for electing President Joe Biden and Democratic majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate. But polls show the exact opposite.

In a Fox Business interview, Scott, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, tasked with regaining a GOP majority in 2022, said, “I think the American public are fed up” with Democrats and that Biden isn’t doing what he promised.

“They want a secure border. They want our schools open. They don’t want tax increases. They want us to support law enforcement,” he opined. “The Democrats are on the opposite side of all those issues. I think in the ’22 election, people are gonna have a lot of buyer’s remorse.” Continue reading.

GOP Sen. Tim Scott faces Twitter firestorm over gaslighting remarks about the severity of white supremacy

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) found himself at the center of controversy with his recent remarks arguing that “woke supremacy is as bad as white supremacy.” For the last two days, he has been slammed on social media and the critical reactions are still coming.

On Tuesday, March 9, the South Carolina lawmaker appeared on Fox News where he responded to MSNBC’s Joy Reid’s remarks suggesting Scott only served as “the patina of diversity” at the Republican Party’s recent press conference. Scott claimed, “Woke supremacy is as bad as white supremacy. We need to take that seriously.”

Scott’s remarks quickly became a point of contention on and off social media. As the reactions poured in, CNN’s Don Lemon fired back at him. The CNN news anchor began his argument with a recollection of the United States’ long, odious history of slavery as he noted how people “can be so ignorant.” Continue reading.

‘I didn’t do the tweets, Chuck’: GOP senator sputters as he shamefully ducks question on Trump’s racism

AlterNet logoShowing exactly the kind of spinelessness that has become expected in the modern GOP, Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida refused to condemn President Donald Trump’s newest racist attacks on Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday morning.

Host Chuck Todd pressed Scott on the president’s weekend tweets about Cummings. As the chair of the House Oversight Committee, the Maryland Democrat has been a leading critic of the president, the White House, and the administration, recently pushing for subpoenas of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s emails and criticizing the Department of Homeland Security for the abominable conditions in which it detains migrants. In what was widely interpreted as a brazenly racist attack, Trump lashed out at Cummings on Saturday and Sunday:

Todd correctly linked this to Trump’s other recent racist attacks (while pointedly avoiding the term “racist”) and pushed for Scott to respond.

WASHINGTON — Tim Scott, the lone black Republican in the Senate, delivered a pointed history lesson on America’s 300-year legacy of racism to President Trump on Wednesday in response to what he called Mr. Trump’s “sterile” response to the riots in Charlottesville, Va., last month.

The president invited Mr. Scott, a conservative from South Carolina who had expressed disgust with Mr. Trump’s equivocal reaction to the white supremacist protests that left one woman dead, to the Oval Office for what Mr. Trump’s staff described as a demonstration of the president’s commitment to “positive race relations.” Both men described the interaction as positive and constructive, but Mr. Scott clearly had a point to make.

When a reporter asked the senator after the meeting if the president had expressed regret, a pained look flashed on Mr. Scott’s face. He paused for a few seconds and replied, “He certainly tried to explain what he was trying to convey.” Continue reading “After Charlottesville, Black Republican Gives Trump a History Lesson on Racism”
