In yet another excerpt from Michael Wolff’s third book on Donald Trump’s administration, Business Insider is reporting that the former president’s negotiations to become a contributor to the Parler social media platform broke down over censorship.

Specifically, a demand that Trump’s critics be banned.

According to Wolff, representatives for the former president — who has been banned from Twitter and Facebook — made a pitch for him to join Parler in return for a significant portion of the site’s revenue. The Trump administration rescinded an award recognizing the work of a journalist from Finland last year after discovering she had criticized President Trump in social media posts, then gave a false explanation for withdrawing the honor, according to a report by the State Department’s internal watchdog.

The report tracks how the discovery of the journalist’s remarks worried senior U.S. officials and prompted a decision to withdraw the honor to avoid a possible public relations debacle.

The report’s release is likely to worsen tensions between the department’s leadership and the inspector general’s office, which has undergone several shake-ups following the firing of Inspector General Steve Linick in the spring at the request of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Continue reading.

‘I haven’t heard about testing in weeks’: Leaked audio reveals Trump dismissed governors’ concerns about lack of coronavirus equipment

AlterNet logoIn a conference call with governors on Monday, President Donald Trump dismissed concerns about shortages of coronavirus testing equipment in states across the nation, claiming he “hasn’t heard about testing being a problem” despite loud warnings from local officials and near-constant reporting on the issue by media outlets.

“I haven’t heard about testing in weeks,” the president said, according to leaked audio of the call obtained by CBS News. “We’ve tested more now than any nation in the world. We’ve got these great tests and we come out with another one tomorrow that’s, you know, almost instantaneous testing. But I haven’t heard about testing being a problem.”

Trump’s remarks came after Montana Gov. Steve Bullock said on the call that his state doesn’t “have enough supplies to even do the testing” for coronavirus, which has officially infected more than 163,000 people in the United States. Continue reading.

Everyone and everything Trump has blamed for his coronavirus response

Trump Asks For ‘Only Friendly Reporters’ At Press Conference With Turkey’s Erdogan

Trump made the comment alongside the president of a nation known for its imprisonment of journalists.

President Donald Trump asked for questions from “only friendly reporters” a joint news conference Wednesday with the president of Turkey ― a country notorious for imprisoning critical journalists.

“A friendly reporter from Turkey, please,” Trump said after asking Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan if he’d like to choose the next questioner.

“Only friendly reporters we like to see,” Trump added. “There aren’t too many of them around.”
