Trump missed call on Ukraine aid to play golf — on the same day whistleblower complaint was filed

AlterNet logoPresident Donald Trump missed a conference call with top officials about his order to freeze military aid to Ukraine to play golf with professional player John Daly on the same day that the whistleblower complaint which triggered his impeachment was filed.

Trump’s decision set off a frenzy behind the scenes as some aides scrambled to justify the move, while others pushed to change his mind, according to an extensive New York Times report detailing what happened inside the administration following the president’s directive.

Trump first asked to freeze the aid in June. The order led Russel Vought, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, to search on Google for a right-wing Washington Examiner article, which appears to have prompted Trump’s decision. Continue reading

Trump tore into Obama in 2016 for playing golf — now those attacks have blown up in his face

When Donald Trump was running for president in 2015 and 2016, he spent a lot of time criticizing President Barack Obama for playing so much golf — insisting that Obama could have been more productive if he had spent more time in the White House. But Robert Maguire, research director for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), reported in a Friday morning tweet that Trump has now surpassed Obama in the amount of time spent golfing as president. And Maguire illustrates his point by posting a hilarious video in which candidate Trump railed against Obama’s golf habit in 2015 and 2016.

Maguire, in his Friday morning tweet, writes that in December 2015, “candidate Trump criticized Obama” for having “played 250 rounds of golf” during his seven years as president. But Maguire quickly adds, “Trump is making his 251st taxpayer-funded visit to one of the golf resorts he still profits from and said he wouldn’t visit if elected.”

Maguine also tweets, “In less than three years in office, Trump has almost surpassed Obama’s eight-year golf tally, which Trump relentlessly criticized on the campaign trail in 2016 (as the video shows).” Continue reading

Trump Spent More Than Three Times the Cost of Robert Mueller’s Russia Investigation Playing Golf at His Own Resorts

Ever since special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation began, Republicans and most importantly President Donald Trump have loved to tout how it was all a waste of money.

Well, an exclusive report by HuffPost has found that President Trump has spent some $102 million of taxpayers’ money to play golf at his own resorts—some three times the cost of the Mueller investigation—which has several watchdog groups concerned considering he’s not only blowing taxpayers’ bread so his wide ass can go cheat at golf, he’s also lining his companies’ pockets every time he plays.

Oh, and because the president doesn’t give a shit about the country, he’s already planned a seven-figure presidential visit near Ireland so he can play golf at, yep, you guessed it, his own resort.

Following national emergency announcement, Trump goes golfing

The president’s public schedule contradicts his rhetoric about a crisis at the southern border.

President Donald Trump will head to his Mar-a-Lago resort and golf club Friday afternoon, hours after declaring a national emergency in order to build a wall on the southern border, according to his public schedule.

The move is not entirely surprising, given Trump’s past behavior in regards to the manufactured crisis.

Last year, the president sent troops to the border, in response to what he said was a worsening humanitarian and national security situation, only to pull them back a short while later, and then, without reason, send troops back again earlier this month. In January, Trump also delivered a televised address to the nation, laying out the supposed “crisis,” but did not declare a state of emergency, instead allowing the partial government shutdown — which began after Trump rejected a bill to fund his border wall because it did not include enough money — to drag on for more than a month.

Trump just played a round of golf with Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus

President Trump golfed with professionals Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus on Saturday, ending the longest stretch of his presidency without a round at one of his courses.

The White House is usually reluctant to confirm the president is golfing. But on Saturday, aides alerted reporters that Trump was at his course in Jupiter, Fla., with Nicklaus and Woods. They even ushered journalists inside the club for a peek.

The president later shared a photo of the trio on social media, and a Trump Organization official bragged about the matchup, noting that Woods and Nicklaus design courses for the company.

Trump has spent more than 150 days at his golf courses since becoming president, playing significantly more than his predecessors, whom he had mocked for golfing too much. Aides used to worry about how much time Trump spent playing but have largely accepted it. They say the president is calmest when he’s on the greens.

Secret Service denies hiding Trump’s golfing from media

The following article by Brett Samuels was posted on the Hill website December 27, 2017:

The Secret Service and a local sheriff’s office on Wednesday denied using a white box truck to block CNN cameras from recording President Trumpplaying golf at his course in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Secret Service told CNN that the agency “is in the business of protection and investigations not in commissioning vehicles to block the media’s view of the President’s golf swing.” Continue reading “Secret Service denies hiding Trump’s golfing from media”

President Trump was spotted hitting the golf course Saturday afternoon as he spends his fourth weekend in a row at his golf club in Virginia.

Trump’s motorcade arrived at Trump National Golf Club shortly after 10:50 a.m. Pool reports stated Trump was greeted by one protester holding a sign reading “impeach” as he arrived.

The president has no public events scheduled for this weekend. His staff says he regularly takes meetings or does work while at his golf clubs and only occasionally confirms that Trump is golfing. Continue reading “Video catches Trump on the golf course”
