Minnesota DFL Issues Update on the Coronavirus and Future Party Events

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, Minnesota DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin issued the following guidance to local DFL organizing units regarding future party events:

“The Minnesota DFL is monitoring the spread of the coronavirus here in Minnesota very closely and will continue to do so throughout this public health crisis. At this time, the Minnesota Department of Health and other public health agencies have not recommended that organizations cancel community gatherings and events. As such, the Minnesota DFL is recommending that party units proceed with conventions while taking the necessary precautions we outlined in earlier correspondence.

“The Minnesota DFL leadership and staff are working closely with the national party, as well as our Constitution, Rules, and Bylaws Committee to explore all contingencies in the event that the guidance from public health officials changes. The DFL will explore all options to allow our party units to conduct the important business of our party while also keeping our party members and the public safe.

“Rest assured that the Minnesota DFL’s decision-making process will be guided first and foremost by the well-being of the members of our party and the recommendations of medical experts and the scientific community. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more.”

DFL Smashes All Previous Off-Year Fundraising Records

DFL enters 2020 stronger and more organized than ever

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party announced it raised more money in 2019 than any previous off-year in DFL history. In 2019, the Minnesota DFL raised over $8.1 million and entered 2020 with over $650,000 cash on hand. “Our record-breaking fundraising is proof that DFLers are fired up and ready to win races up and down the ballot in November,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “The unprecedented grassroots support our party received from DFLers in every single county in Minnesota has ensured the DFL has the resources to take on the Trump campaign, take back the State Senate, and defend the incredible gains we made in 2018. Our party is entering 2020 with a terrific slate of candidates, a great team of organizers, and tons of supporters across Minnesota that are ready to get to work electing DFLers.”

What’s in the numbers:

  • The DFL received contributions from every single county in Minnesota
  • Over 93% of the DFL’s contributions were $100 or less
  • Over 90% of the DFL’s contributions were from Minnesota, but the DFL also received contributions from 49 states – thanks for nothing West Virginia
  • The DFL doubled the party’s previous off-year fundraising record
  • The DFL entered 2020 with more cash on hand than any previous off-year

The Minnesota DFL’s 2019 fundraising totals:

DFL Statement on the Passing of Kathleen Anderson

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement on the passing of longtime DFL leader and activist Kathleen Anderson:

“Kathleen Anderson’s passing is a profound loss for the people of Minnesota. Today, we have lost a leader, a mentor, an activist, a dedicated public servant, and a friend to countless Minnesotans.

“Anderson dedicated her life to serving the people of Minnesota through her work in the Minnesota Legislature and as a longtime aide for Congressman Sabo. She believed deeply in the government’s power to do good in people’s lives, which is reflected in her longtime human rights advocacy. Anderson was also passionate about bringing joy to Minnesotans by supporting the arts. That legacy of passion is visible today in the federal courthouse in Minneapolis, as she lead the committee that selected the court’s art and landscaping.

“For decades, you could not attend a DFL caucus or convention in Minneapolis without running into Anderson. Her presence and engagement was a constant, as was the mentorship she provided to so many young DFL activists. Anderson touched so many lives and inspired so many people, and I know I speak for Minnesotans across our state when I say that Kathleen will be missed dearly.”

Stacey Abrams to Headline DFL Founders Day Dinner

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) announced that Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia House Democratic Leader and founder and chair of Fair Fight, will be headlining the Party’s December 6th Founders Day Dinner.

“It is an honor to be rallying Democrats in Minnesota, a crucial battleground state in the nation and a state with a proud Democratic legacy of fighting to make the ballot box accessible to all,” said Stacey Abrams. “My Fair Fight 2020 initiative includes Minnesota because the stakes are high in the upcoming election, and a Democrat needs to win Minnesota to win the White House. Minnesotans’ access to good health care, strong public schools and economic security depends on DFLers winning big. I look forward to joining the DFL and Chairman Ken Martin for their Founders Day Dinner and working with the party to keep Minnesota blue in 2020.”

“Stacey Abrams is an invaluable leader in the fight to end voter suppression and ensure a fair and accurate census,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “I really admire Abrams’ dedication to making our government more responsive to and representative of the American people, and I am thrilled she will be headlining our Founders Day Dinner.” Continue reading “Stacey Abrams to Headline DFL Founders Day Dinner”
